was that with heat-pump - although with windchill 0c maybe beneath its best recovery.

Liverpool via the autobahn sounds quite the trek :D

i checked mine (ipace) and usually on a long trip i am looking at an average of 33kw per 100 miles however in the cold snap of -3 to -5 according to my car i am looking at over 42 kw per 100 miles.

my wifes i3 with 28kwh usable battery is down from 120 miles in summer to barely 80 miles in the cold snap.

cold weather is a harsh mistress on EV's!

On most objective tests on two EVs with and without a heat pump, the difference in winter is maybe max 15 miles but only noticeable on long trips.

It becomes worthless on short range commutes where neither version has time to heat up the car significantly.
 
ok what is windchill called on inamimate objects .... if the car is hitting a 0c air mass at 70mph heat will be conducted away faster than if it was stationary,
more power would be needed to heat the cabin, too
like I said though even if you had a hp (like in the house) aren't you loosing efficiency beneath 5/8C, but the vag co2 one could be better.

e: maybe his trip to liverpool was assymetric oncoming wind-wise . so energy

An enclosed system is not affected by wind at all, so no wind chill is not a thing. In fact on air cooled systems the increased air pressure through the cooling systems helps improve cooling.

When you are driving at 70 it feels no different to driving at 20, it’s the same for an engine. It is the increased air pressure at speed and different weather conditions that affects efficiency. This affects both ICE and BEVs but because BEVs have smaller ranges, the impact is more noticeable.

Forced convection and hence heat loss by the mass airflow crossing it... just basic thermodynamics. Nothing to do with windchill - thats due to latent heat of evaporation on skin being accelerated.

My Leaf really did not like sub zero temps and dropped to 2.4 miles per Kw. Back to double figure temps and a trip to Elgin and back (35 miles round trip) saw me back up to 4.16 miles per Kw. It's still by far the best and easiest car I have ever driven in the snow though. My neighbour who bought a 20 plate BMW 235i M power last week couldn't even get out of his drive.

When I bought my MG4, next door but one neighbours were standing by my wall repeating every EV myth going including when it's sub zero it won't start.
On Saturday morning we drove out of our drive and their car wouldn't start.
I rolled down my window and said "Have you had an electric car" :)
