EV general discussion

Although I'm getting insurance quotes coming in from the compare the market at £100 more than the 2gc m235i was.
was curious quote for me on seal is ~1K , vs quotes I'd had for teslastd3/id7/capri280/i435 850/500/500/700 so I would't ever contemplate a tesla, or seal now;
this had explained to me why tesla sell into fleet, contributing to depreciation they have - held hostage by underwiters.

Quotes were around £558 for the Excellence and £433 for the Design versions..

Pretty much nothing in the grand scheme of things then.

So possibly the byd seal is an alternative for the bmw i4 having looked at the specs, it has the shape I prefer and perhaps less controversial but obviously I've yet to drive one. Although I'm getting insurance quotes coming in from the compare the market at £100 more than the 2gc m235i was. Why is the seal a more expensive car to insure, I can see the differences in the insurance groups, m235i 36, seal 48 and the i4 38. What is causing this difference, is it just because the manufacturer is Chinese?

I test drove one (AWD version) I immediately ordered so it's safe to say I was impressed. It's definitely worth having a drive. I read somewhere about the insurance, that the BYD were more likely to be written off in an accident due to lack of experience generally in repairing them. Whether or not this is true or even makes sense I don't know. I ordered mine through the Tusker scheme at work and it was about 20-25% cheaper (I can't remember exactly) than an equivalent i4 (which is also a very nice car) so I suspect the manufacturer are really pushing to get them out the door by offering big discounts. I would guess having a good shop around would be worth it.

I doubt there's enough experience/data of either the brand or the particular model yet really so the insurance is probably quite high as they are pricing in the unknowns/risk factor

Last year I did a quote for a seal excellence and it came out at 420 a month lol. For a comparison a model 3 performance was 600 ish a year and my ioniq 5 AWD was around 500.

Unknown car brand and insurers hate that as it means even minor repairs are excessive. As the brand becomes more established and gains widespread ownership, the premiums normalise.

It is for a year and I put in 13 years NCB
My EC4 Citroen insurance was £387.59 with Aviva and is due for re-newel in July, C4 has been around a while now, mine is around 14months old and has 2200 miles, i don't do much driving now and I have found the C4 electric to be perfect for me, have my own charger at home and get around 220 miles when fully charged.

Unfortunately I'm not looking at recommendations for what car to purchase, the Citroën is too slow for me as well..

Not too bad!!

There’s been articles floating around about various Tesla’s for many years but that is a sample of 1 manufacturer.

It’s good that some other manufacturers cars are getting up to these high mileages and being publicised.

Ultimately it’s a positive thing to help dispel the narrative that you’ll need to replace the battery after a few years and not very many miles that people still genuinely believe because the likes of Clarkson said it on top gear over a decade ago.
