EV general discussion

I had a long play with various planners and also the MB app and to be honest the issue is vastly overstated. ....

I think whilst it could have been avoided its not anywhere near as big an issue as its being made out to be.

Thus far the only time I've had a problem was when I first had the EV and didn't know what I was doing. I think there is a learning curve for new owners.

I think a lot of the stories are from people with an agenda so they set themselves up to fail, or the stories are actually fake. Because the numbers don't add up. Some people don't have the mindset for EVs. If you're someone who runs out of fuel in your petrol car regularly (quite common) probably don't by an EV.

In Ireland there are still parts of the country where there aren't many chargers and they are oversubscribed or not out of service. There are still lots of short ranged EVs like our eGolf, Leafs, Minis etc.

I've a trip this summer and I know we'll take the eGolf instead of our petrol car. But we'll have limited charging options at the destination because it's remote.

There are still parts of the rural mainland UK where it isn't great - where we were on Holiday in Wales back in the summer it wasn't great compounded by people seemingly just leaving their cars parked at the charger indefinitely. Around where I live in rural Somerset it isn't straightforward unless you are a local and know the lay of the land - been a few people caught out due to the reality of the chargers and what is on the maps being different, though it seems to be getting better.

It might be less common in newer cars with all the warning.

I remember watching a car reviewer saying they do the same in an EV as in an ICE run the fuel very low and been out a fuel many times. Made me look it up.

I know my other half regularly tells me when they get in late that the car is low on fuel. Petrol or EV. Used to be a pain if you had an early start next day. One of the reasons I wanted an EV.

It also depends on the estimated range algorithm.

The mini se we had was very good. Like, very. I could plan to the 5 miles. The PS2P I’m still learning, but the capacity is such that it is way less of a thought.

First real road trip today - 130 mile round trip - the mini would need a solid charge 3rd of the way into the return journey to be able to cover the same!

Should get that in roughly half a ‘tank’ based on my old LRSM.

With the eGolf even with the digital display it's terrible no battery % and the built in maps utterly obsolete. But it's all fixed using ABRP (paid) and a OBD dongle. You get live chargers and battery % and very accurate range and navigation. Makes longer trips so easy with a small battery.

Our other petrol is pretty poor it drops off very fast when in the red and a fuel light comes on. You have to head for fuel immediately.

Booked Ioniq in for service this morning and then on way to daughters school the windscreen cracked. A nice £750 bill today loving the EV cheap running. Lol
What did they do? There must have been replacement parts for it to have cost anywhere near that much.

I booked my Ioniq in for it's 'big' service last week, i used the online booking tool to pick a date beginning of March as the car's just pingged up saying service in 30 days. Then get an email from the dealer saying the nearest they can get me in is the 16th of April! That's 10 weeks after i booked!! Not amazing service and doesn't fill me with hope if the car needs anything..

Unfortunately it's the only dealer in north Wales so they've kinda got me over a barrel as it's already a 50 minute drive away. One of those things i should have looked into more beforehand perhaps but i've just never had an issue booking a regular service with a main dealer in a reasonable timeframe before.

Is that without a courtesy car (availability for the courtesy car is often a constraint)? Pretty shoddy that

Did you try Cleevley - they do mobile services?
