EV general discussion

We're in a similar situation. After looking around all the options, Id' suggest also having a look at the latest French EVs. We went for a 5008 in the end, as we could do with the option of popping out the 7 seats quite regularly.
No option for those on our lease scheme, not at a reasonable price anyway.

Coming to the end of my NHS lease and options aren't amazing:

Q6 Etron Quattro
A6 Avant RWD version
BYD Sealion 7
Q4 Etron
BMW iX1 xdrive
MGS5 (dirt cheap)

Is that the entire list of options? What are the relative monthly costs if you put MGS5 at 100% cost?

Be wary of the 5008. A friend got one and the software is incredibly bugged. Consistently leaves him stranded to the point he refuses to drive it any great distance. Peugeot insist nothing is wrong and he is trying to reject through the lease company.

That's gotta be about £640 a month after tax saving still.

Mine was about that a couple of years ago before sales started slowing.

It was cheaper than an EV6, Ionic V and polestar 2 at the time.

Insurance on the Y was about £1500 if I went private at the time

Must resist putting a little "Mr" sticker in front of the Andersen name on the unit itself. :p

App is a little basic compared to the Hypervolt one but it has all of the important features we need.

since there was F1 discussion adding fwd motors for more energy harvesting - their benefits for cars ....

The results clearly(!) show that the FWD topology demonstrates superior energy efficiency and regenerative performance in both test cycles. Under WLTP Class 3 conditions, the FWD vehicle consumed 3.10 kWh of net energy compared to 3.21 kWh for the RWD configuration, representing a reduction of approximately 3.4 % in total energy consumption. Simultaneously, the total regenerated energy increased from 0.74 kWh (RWD) to 0.85 kWh (FWD) – an improvement of roughly 15 %.

so maybe I shouldn't look down on the fwd drive experience I'm currently encumbrred with rip:bmw
although less benefit if you're driving long distance on motorways.

May the 4th be with you. Clearly a Sith Lord at this point.

Obviously 4 wheels regenerate more energy which is the other benefit of 4WD EV road cars. Driving fun and comparing F1 cars which are now doing the same as Formula E anyway…. Let’s stay in the lane of road cars please.

Is it just me or does £1k a month even with sal sac benefits seem a lot for a Model Y
Very expensive. Its £537 a month PCH from Tesla 1+23

Unless your insurance is insane, then these SS offers generally dont seem much better than private options unless you are top tier tax payer and in most cases worse. Tyres generally may last 2-3 years so not a huge factor

just checked with my colleague and it's £1k/mth (pre-tax income) for 10k miles PA, insurance, maintenance, tyres and recovery all in. the nhs sal-sac is a 0+36 term. the equivalent model y premium lr awd is £696/mth (post-tax income) via tesla (not checked others though)
also, depending on pay, helps with reducing the £60k pension trap for older/higher-earning staff due to DB calculations

say £696 and add an extra £80 for upkeep costs (insurance etc) that's £776 month...the pre-tax income taking into account a 40% earner + NI + BIK would be in the region of £1300-1400/mth, or more once you take into account the reduction in pension contributions

edited for clarity
