EV general discussion

Personal loan - 6% from my bank against the dealership 10% and it appears in my app next to my current account so I can pay extra off anytime I want to with a few clicks.

So oyu just bought the car outright? Presumably there's very little deal to be done this way? As dealers presumably want you to get a car on finance instead.

EDIT: Renault have 0% on at the moment it seems.

Lol, unfortunately we have a 'subscription' for my partner at Peterborough Hospital which is a necessity to have a car, plus we live in a village that only has a pub for our entertainment.

Fair one - I should stop putting my own life circumstances onto everyone else really! Having been stationed at Waddington for a few years I can understand the isolation!

As far as the dealership was concerned, yes - trade in plus bank transfer. I’ve never been able to haggle on anything because in my mind it’s something I want and I’m either happy to pay the advertised price and or I’m not! Plus, when it comes to cars I’m picky about equipment levels so usually I’ll have been searching for ages for a particular one and when I find it I’ll just go for it, numbers be damned. My recent one was at the top end of what I wanted to spend so I did a lot of thinking and watched them lower the price by a grand over a month before pulling the trigger.

The exception is if there’s an advantage to taking their finance like an extended warranty, but even then I’ll make one payment then clear it a low rate loan.

This is what I did with my R5, two years 0% and I'll pay the rest off at the end. Dealer gave me a small discount too, nothing substantial but this was over a year ago so these days there should be better offers, plus the enhanced EV grant.

If the R5 is too small you could consider the R4, not that it's particularly spacious either.

I think the Scenic would be the next logical larger car?

Seems to review well too. I think my nearest Renault dealer is in Worcester, so may take the trip up sometime to have a gander.

A Model Y is about £100 a month more (premium long range). But I've hated ever trip I've had in a Tesla, and thought they felt very cheap and poorly made (only ridden in various taxis, so probably not the best place to gather opinions.....or maybe it is?)

The biggest complaint in the R5 is the limited space for rear passengers so the extra 20cm of the R4 remedies that somewhat and at least gives people with feet somewhere to put them. Next size up would be the Megane, then the Scenic.
