The issue with granny charging is usually the socket itself not the wiring behind.

If there is bad contact, it will melt eventually.

You can get EV rated socket facia that are specifically tested to a higher spec. They only cost a few £ so if you plan to granny charge regularly, I recommend a swapping to one.

I’d just granny charge, 10 hours a day you are getting 90 miles back.
 
I just granny charge at 8 amps a lot of the time on one of those dedicated EV single socket plates. Barely gets warm even when leaving it for 12 or so hours/overnight. I only do 20 miles a day though so it's easy to top up every few days.

The wiring in my house is pretty old so I had an electrician friend fit an EV rated mains socket to a spare fuse in the garage fuse box using a new cable. I'd used the the existing mains socket in the garage to charge my Mini once so I got him to check it out as well. Just as well as it was already showing signs of melting internally.
