given both have same parent company and (I thought) fundamentally used the majority of the same parts if one is a security risk then the other is too....

If they're using the same software then it's likely the Volvo is sending user data to China too

It’s not about sending data to China, it’s about software which is maintained by either Russia or China. That’s really quite broad these days and impacts all kinds of stuff manufactured in the far east.

China isn’t just the manufacture of hardware the west designs and programmes anymore. They make their own stuff and some of it is actually very good.

from a security perspective the cars could be used like trojan horses - think the Israeli walkie talkie coup, or huawei phones in fed buildings.
 
These are the ICTS requirements around supply chain security. See https://www.federalregister.gov/doc...-and-services-supply-chain-connected-vehicles (and BIS via other searches). It's really looking at this along all dimensions: it's not just about maintenance by China or Russia, it's the supply chain threat from that about data harvesting etc.

Notice the point about HBOM and SBOM - this is an inventory of all software components present in the car. Some cars, like Polestar which is a collaboration with Geely, will no doubt have lots of chinese software and hardware components in it. Since modern high-tech connected vehicles are basically surveillance boxes on wheels, this is quite a sensible move to push for supply chain security. Not only can crappy software components introduce all sorts of security risks into these "devices" - the vehicles can potentially gather all sorts of telemetry and other material and ship it back to HQ <cough, cough CCP>.

China is actually working *against* greater software transparency https://iotm2mcouncil.org/iot-libra...-policy/china-tightens-global-control-of-iot/ - probably trying to hide all sorts of license violations and dodgy software bits (libraries and components being respun from open source with a few little edits etc etc). This should be serious cause for concern.

No chance then, came with the car, was from a Kia main dealer, but I don't hold much hope then.
I can only assume it's the original that came with the car, so almost 3 years old.

Still bugging me as to what's wrong with it, lol.
 
Despite going through finance and paying for a deposit on a car, I’ve now been told there isn’t one available.


I’m now in a compromised position having cancelled my payments to Alphabet and having a hard credit search on my account for the Hyundai. Unlikely to be accepted on anything else and not willing to take the risk.


Fuming would be an understatement.

How can they not find one from stock somewhere lol, beggars belief how incompetent dealers are doesn't it

I went through 4 agreements in the space of 3 months due to issues with cars (1 rejected due to battery failure, 1 never actually turned up, 1 rejected due to total software failure and dreadful experience) If the agreement isn't called for payment then a search will be there but most good finance companies if concerned will ask the question about the other agreement but don't forget these are secured loans so not like a personal loan etc.

The risk is that if they reject the finance, it’ll then look really poor.


May take out a loan and just buy a car. I am sick of dealing with leasing companies.

I assume no other dealers nearby who would have the car and be interested in doing you a similar deal? Stick it in CarWow or look on autotrader and see who has stock of what you want and make a couple of phone calls? end of month maybe somebody would want to shift something?

PCH lease check isn't going to stop to getting another.

You should be annoyed, we were fuming when Mercedes did the same thing to us.

I shall check but it’s quite a good deal, so not feeling massively confident!

would have been an excellent deal, matching the tesla model 3 ones -
but hyundai haven't got surplus cars in the UK they are knockning 40% off for a quick 24 month turnaround under pch.

can you do a deal on a pre-reg/demo one.
