have to say after 2.5 years of ownership our BMW i3 has just really impressed me.
it was my wife's car and only bought to do short range miles. it is a .... iirc 33kwh battery one (the middle sized battery) with afaik 28kwh usable with range extender.
we needed to use her car to go on a 140 mile jaunt which is more than the car is expected to do on pure battery. yes it's hot (34degrees) but air con was on for most of the journey with a short blast with windows and sunroof open instead , 3 people in the car and both the boot and one back seat loaded to the brim and it managed the whole jaunt on battery and no need to use the engine.

yes I know nowadays 140 miles is nowt on battery EVs. but for a 2018 car with official battery range of iirc 120 miles - (and how often do they do the cited range?) I am impressed.

(it's also a fun drive too.... a gokart on steroids. admittedly a very firm ride on our terrible roads but a very different driving experience to my ipace .. it's nice to have 2 completely different driving experiences both fun in their own way)

I don't the it's that far off 250 miles though, even EV database puts it at 225 miles combined as they tend to be conservative on their estimations. I only know one person who owns and X-Power and she drives it around town, so can't really ask her as she'll be getting way over mixed use range.
Just trying to give my lived with experience, 250+ miles is improbable for mixed real world usage. Especially if you have any intention of using the power it's got.
 
Range tanks in the winter my Ioniq 5 was barely getting 160 miles half motorway half country roads. In this heat even my GT is getting nearly 280 miles with A/C on and spirited driving. So many factors affect range.

Winter isn't really the same when you are in New Zealand though.
 
Yes, true but it’s also still colder than typical UK summers. So if an MG4 standard range can barely hit 250 UK summer miles unless driven like a granny, then an xPower on the same battery is not going to hit 250+ (400+km) New Zealand winter miles with lows of 5c - 10c depending upon North or South Island.
 
20-25c is not typical NZ winter temperatures, that is their summer averages. Typical NZ winter temperatures vary by region but:

The average New Zealand temperature decreases as you travel south. January and February are the warmest months, and July is the coldest month of the year. In summer, the average maximum temperature ranges between 20-30ºC (70-90°F) and in winter between 10-15ºC (50-60°F).

You said summer, you love to argue by moving the goal posts about your previous statement - currently winter there now, temps 10-15c. So ranges is not impacted like UK winters with much lower averages.

No he didn’t. The OP didn’t specify a season, just one of their criteria was a range of 400+km.

I mentioned both summer and winter in my response to Grim to clarify that a ~60kWh battery EV would barely get that range in summer if driven spiritedly and certainly not get in winter. I was also responding to Tom-e clarifying his MG4 long range couldn’t get 400+km in UK summers. Because if an MG4 with a 61kWh battery can’t get 400+km in UK summer, it won’t get it in NZ winter.

You've obviously got a problem with ICDP but reading it as someone with no skin in your beef it makes sense.
 
Question for the old timers here, back when Tesla first started installing Superchargers in the UK how long did it take before they became pretty common? (as in say one every 50 miles).

I've seen that BYD are bringing 1500kw chargers to the UK which will add 250 miles to compatible EVs in 5 minutes, which means after all these years of waiting buying an EV will finally be viable for me as long as I can find these chargers :D (I know I will be limited to new BYD and compatible models).
 
Thanks, that’s exactly my point. But instead of debating honestly they accuse me of editing my posts to change my narrative when no such thing happened.

Back on topic of a 400+km RWD EV shorter than 4.4m for NZ. For @Grim5

MG.4 Long range with 74kWh useable battery fits the bill. A 61kWh version will get nowhere near that if you aren’t prepared to compromise on a quick top up at a rapid.

 
I had the normal long range and driving a roads last summer in eco mode wouldn't have hit that range and the X power is a fair bit lower on wltp iirc

What does that even mean? - if you edit a post type EDIT: and show what your changed as otherwise you are obfuscating your original statement that has been replied to and can make the response look incorrect.

The outcome should be what loss does an EV in New Zealand suffer in their winter as it will not be anything like the UK or Ireland, and how does that materially change what the person asked in the first place.

I am sure someone will be along to comment that 10-15c is freezing and it's going to be rubbish etc. etc. I am looking for actual data which no one here will have any real experience, you have the closest with summer experience, perhaps early to mid spring could be extrapolated to their winter conditions.

I have since even posted a video showing a long range MG4 with a 74kWh net battery capacity makes 430km in NZ winter. A 61kWh version will get nowhere near that considering the larger battery version has over 20% more capacity.

Oh no… I have had the audacity to edit my post, I must be being disingenuous again.
