EV general discussion

I'm not in the holiday letting game, as much as my wife would like us to be
my neighbours are in this and as we speak loading up the car to do a weekly changeover/clean an onerous task he always telling me (the park they have ther place has communal chargers)

As someone who had one the worlds slowest charging, yet most efficient BEV's, I can tell you this matters 0%. If you are stopping to pee and there is a free charger,
in ICE you have the opposite algorithm can I last till I get home to have a pee - or will I stop and also get some petrol.
(although after recently learning that keeping the tank low wears out the fuel pump I'm changing my algorithm)
Do have a bread-maker at home and it paines me having to pay >4X at the supermarket

Even 65p for AC is taking the pee somewhat. My local AC chargers are 45p, 22kw with contactless.

No one uses them at 99% of owners around here have a driveway.
It's a no win situation. People won't buy an EV unless they see chargers everywhere. So they put in chargers. Very few use the chargers. To try and make the chargers viable they have to charge a high p/kWh. Less people use the chargers... and so it goes on.

It's why the implementation is so much more important than the number of available units.

Normalising time of use pricing would help, both domestically and across charging networks.

A minimum of a 2 rate tariff but ideally a 3 rate with an evening peak.

It’s not the price, that is the hosts decision, it’s a business after all, so many valid ways they can approach it, it simply is the lack of being upfront..

The AirBnB AI assistant has indicated that if the host doesn’t disclose amenity fees the the expectation is they are included, and if the host doesn’t resolve this, then AirBnB can get involved. I’d already conveyed that as they weren’t disclosed, I assumed either they were included or would be at the current capped rate worse case to the host who hasn’t responded, so will just Supercharge at the last opportunity and see what happens..

I think you should absolutely complain. You should've been told the cost in advance.

Went to a Renault dealer to have a poke around a 5.

No heated mirrors.
No heated windscreen.
The "cupholders" are a joke (this is a big one for us, we commute 80 miles a day and love our morning coffee on the way in, so we place a lot more value on them than most)
There is no 12v outlet in the boot.
In order to get heated seats, you have to get the top model, which only has that odd coloured green/yellowish interior which we didn't particularly like. The colours are very limited too - this was the dealbreaker. We love the yellow colour, but that's only on the base model, which doesn't have heated seats. The ones with heated seats only come in black, yellow, that lovely deep blue (which my wife doesn't like) and a matte grey which neither of us liked.

Pity, as we were feeling a bit spendy today and I might have just yolo'd myself in to one.

end of the day it's an affordable car I guess. so compromises are made.
for me if there was a change i would like (and iirc was on the concept) is retractable door handles but again..... budget cuts !

one thing confuses me about your post tho. you say you really like yellow.... but then make it out that the top spec one has no colours you like despite.listing the yellow.

if we get one in the future to replace our i3... I hope to get the yellow or the green.

I never get people who are drinking hot drinks when they should be concentrating on driving.
Perhaps it's just a me thing.
Gets ready for the incoming flame

Fortunately in 23 years of driving I've never had an accident, and our commute is mostly cruise control down the A3.

Yeah I worded it wrong. Whilst I generally like two-tone cars (our Mini with the black roof looks fantastic imo), the red line around the roof just kills it. And the interior fabric is a colour that neither of us got on with.

Yeah but you could have a baguette holder!

I really like the drive on the 5 but they are cheap and it shows on the interior. I could tolerate it but the yellow interior is vile. Surely they could give another option. I get it's trying to look retro but another option is needed as well. I'm holding out for a mid cycle refresh in the hopes they clean up the things people dislike about the car.

Hmm, that's a real shame as my missus had her heart set on the yellow 5.

At Tesla owners what you do use for a backup key assuming you use your phones the primary key?

From a quick google options seem to be
Risk it with your phone only
Take card with you via wallet or key holder
Buy Teslas expensive NFC key fob
Buy an Apple Watch

As much as I like Apple gear I’m not a huge fan of their watch and prefer garmin offering which don’t seem to have ability to offer the functionality.

Samsung watches also https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/unlocking-a-tesla-with-a-samsung-galaxy-watch.328181/

My key card is in my wallet which I don’t always have on me although I usually would if I am going outside my local town.

That said, I can’t even remember the last time I used it myself, it’s been years. It only comes out to give to someone else to use (e.g. airport parking).

The Roland Garros interior is much nicer, but again the colours are limited and it's still missing all the bits I listed before. It's only a grand more though, which is quite nice. If they had it in yellow I probably would've probably sucked up the lack of other goodies but there were just too many compromises unfortunately.

Pity as I think the 5 is one of the coolest cars on sale atm.

We went to the Keith show yesterday (agricultural show) and it had a Honda dealer there who had a Super N. I had never seen one before so had aa look at it. The cabin is like a Tardis with loads of room for four people and the front seats are very nice, comfy and supportive, it's actually a very pleasant place to be. Tiny boot though but that doesn't really matter that much as it's meant to be a city car. The show car was less than £20k and it was loaded with options. I would think it would be a good choice for anyone living in or near a city. The wife of course hated it and said it looks like a box on wheels!!
