EV general discussion

The sheer volume of talk I hear from the few EV owners at work about troubles with "intelligent" charging I'm surprised more don't just opt for old fashioned dual rate tariffs and bin off the game of "Greg says" for charging the car!

I’m looking at EDF as they offer 7 hours off peak and it’s a standard duel rate tariff start charging at 11pm finish at 6am. Octopus are trying to be too clever with all this intelligent crap tbh.

Just ran a quote and EDF are more expensive than IOG for me
If you do decide to change I have a referral code which gets us both £50 bill credit
The quotes don't really work for the intelligent tarrifs. You've just got to look at the raw unit/SC costs.
Too many assumptions when they try to calculate a quote.
This ^^^^ the fact that you get a solid 7 overnight hours@8p for me to charge my car and house battery’s is good for me.

Yep

EV rate, day rate and SC per day all higher than my IOG at the minute unfortunately
Yep, it 100% it completely depends on your situation, my complete electric bill so far this year including all my car and battery charging is just over £350 as the vast majority of my usage is @ 8p per kWh

The 6 hour charge cap just got applied to my account. There has been a lot of hysteria about this online which seems to have all ended in an anti-climax?

I plugged in with 6%, applied the cap, it scheduled 6 hours of charging adding 59% which were mostly outside of the overnight period. Tomorrow, I'll charge it again...

I've looked at EDF and Octopus but have decided to go with EDF as it suits us better. We're on BG at the moment, so anything's an improvement but the EDF rates I think will be better for this household. Then I need to start looking at Solar. Haven't got the new car yet, that's coming in November.

Yes I'm going to do EDF when my smart meter eventually gets fitted. On a late shift I don't get home until after midnight so an extra hour will be of more use to me.

EDF is fine but I would only going to save a few quid a year at my usage over IOG, if that. Then there is the £75 exit fee which I feel is wrong.

The referral bonus I got during the world cup covered the exit fee and more. Plus I'd be very surprised if anything is going to get better before my fix ends next June.

Had the IONIQ 6N for the day yesterday, and it is without doubt a very impressive car. The sound is so well done you could be forgiven for thinking it actually has an engine! The 'weight' and damping of the car is outstanding and reminds me a lot of the Taycan, but even better.

Ballistic performance which is a bit too much to exploit on the road, but why not! It really is a Jekyll and Hyde car too, a bit of a 5 Series vibe in terms of comfort. Seats are great too. A huge amount of customisation settings within the N modes, you really can set it up how you want.

Nothing to dislike really, and I actually quite like the design, although the rear is a bit of an acquired taste I suppose. Efficiency wise I think you'd be doing well to get over 3 miles per KW, closer to 2 if you're pressing on a bit. Realistic range is probably low 200's.

I can't really judge how popular they're going to be, could look a very interesting used purchase in 12-18 months.
