EV general discussion

I wonder when the penny drops this is finally the point where @Journey has reached deep apathy towards the endless questions that have already been answered a million times in this thread and many others like it.

Will I save money running an EV
EVs are more expensive to insure
Do EVs catch fire lots
I heard they can’t be charged in the rain
All ICE cars drive better
Can they tow a caravan 500 miles without charging
Can I drive my usual 12 hours without stopping
They take hours to fill up.

Some of those are deliberately facetious but then again maybe not. Because I became apathetic to these questions a long time ago now.

Aye but we can do pages and pages about other nonsense too :D

Then he can choose not to post in here.

Choosing to post the opposite of his normal opinion is fine for those who know that he's just having a moment in public. To those who haven't seen his general agenda to wave the EV flag (even in threads specifically asking about ICE vehicles) for the last few years it's just confusing misadvice. Or 'FUD' if you like.

Sorry where was my maths or advice wrong, other than the first part of the person asking if he could charge at home? Also having an opinion is having an agenda? I am not in the government.
You can also chose not to post in here.

Personally speaking the problem is having given honest and impartial advice for over 6 years, yet the number of people who took it stands at ZERO. You just become apathetic to their utterly ridiculous fears and inane ramblings.

The last person (a colleague) who asked for EV advice received the response of “Buy one or don’t, I don’t care”.

This should be the default stance with any advice given tbh. It's my default stance when I spec pc builds in the main forums...

"Your money to spend, your problem to solve"

No one is compelled to either give or not give advice if someone posts on a forum though. Still seems odd to me that you would go out of your way to give the opposite advice to what you have been doing for the last few years.

The same thing is bound to come up again and again (and again....) because it becomes a pertinent question for people at different points. You can't really expect people to just go back and read through the last 43 thousand posts because that question has already been answered.

If Journey is sick of answering those questions, just stop answering them.

Yeah, was in the pub with my brother in law and his mate on the weekend, they were talking the price of fuel, i chimed in saying i loved the cost to fill mine up overnight when i was sleeping. The response "Well, at least i don't have to worry about my house burning down when my car sets on fire and i can park my car in an airport car park where yours is banned!"...... :D

The last 3 people I gave decent unbiased advice to, all had the most inane reasons for deciding not to go EV. All three had driveways, all 3 gripe about the cost of living and fuel etc. All 3 asked me for my experience and advice on EV ownership.

The first one decided to buy a Ford Edge because the dealer let her pay for it and drive it home that very day. So it saved her waiting for the bus.

The second one ended up in a Ford Edge because “the first one loves hers”.

The third one bought a Renault Captur because she didn’t think an EV would get her up and down to her partners house on the North Coast… 60 miles away. Yep a round trip of 120 miles. This was despite me showing her EVs that would do that without breaking a sweat even on the coldest winter days.

My first world problem is I feel a bit gutted..

I got offered a company car, and subsequently negotiated a superb deal on a BMW iX M70 with Tech/Skylounge options.. and so looking forward to a bit of exec luxury, it would take a lot to get my out of a Model Y, but as they are fire sale'ing the iX at the moment, it's cheaper than an iX3, it seems silly not to, especially as the BiK is slowly going up so stupid RRP cars just make less financial sense as time goes on.

Queue my boss popping in to point out as many 'Do you reaslise' negatives as he can muster.. the only outcome of that conversation was "Yeah, OK, good points, lets knock it on the head then"..

Turns out, he wants a BMW i5 M60 Touring with Ultimate pack and thinks an iX M70 might upstage him.. so for the sake of a low friction life in work, I need to pop myself in my little box like a good boy...

Ho Hum.. I wonder when the Model Y L is coming to the UK, if it's sensibly priced, maybe that and an FSD subscription might be more palettable to them..

I wouldn't be so sure. I paid less swapping my 440i (£1200) for a model 3 LR AWD (£800).
Yeah going from my S3 to the M3 AWD was about £150 a year cheaper. Even went down another £20 this year too staying with Admiral.

Wasn't that brave yesterday. Stopped in some little obscure hotel that had superchargers for long as long as it took me to walk in, get a coffee to go and get back to the car and got home on 5%.

That's the first time I've had to use a supercharger as part of an actual journey. Quite impressed at how easy that process was. Literally got the notification that my car was ready to continue the journey by the time I was a few meters away.

Assume your boss is a bit of a penis then?
I actually get on with him really well..

The issue is, he's very motivated by image/status and as sad as it is, thinking about it, I really should have spotted this before hand..

I have to manage up equally as much as I manage down.. it's sad, but anyone thinking the basics of status don't exist within Exec teams is either very lucky or delusional.. ! :)

I've got the i5 M60 Touring Ultimate, it's not exactly a head turner. Parked up in the car park it just looks like any other big BMW estate car if i'm honest. I think i can count on 1 hand (that's less than 5, i'm not from the 7 fingered part of Yorkshire...... :D ) the people who have come up to me to ask about the car in the nearly 2 years i've had it. He might want to rethink his choice if status is one of the criteria......
