Well as it turned out I think Octopus screwed up, they emailed me to say it was going up from 13.45p peak to 30.22p! And 5p off peak to 7.5p in March then emailed the next day to say there was a mistake and that they’re rolling the current tariff over for another 12 months :D

Think they made the error with a few customers this week going by what I’ve seen online.

central tunnels have proved a bit divisive (in this thread too) the structural rigidity they inadvertently provide ( a spine?) helps the handling,
like the SUV format did to provide family accomodation, and keep the baby on board;
the fifth gear anglessey lap comparing 330e against octavia phev, did however show that 330e's 300Kg of additional weight didm't take the prize

correct it’s not a Plaid, it’s about half the price and half the power, so please manage expectations. what even does an e followed by a colon even mean? “e:” :rolleyes:

the 330e/octavia phev duel showed the consequence of additional weight - which ev's have generally, and probably moreso ones with tunnels

I assumed you meant it's slow compared to a Plaid in general, not what the guys at AutoTopNL have blasted down the Autobahn.
Either way, point still stands. As @Jonnycoupe said; not quite the same price point and completely irrelevant :rolleyes:
 
Ones RWD one FWD. please don’t use such a comparison to prove a zero point. Stiffness from a tunnel may offer nvh benefits or a load path, it will not form part of a 5th gear lap time comparison. Not when both cars have tunnels!

The main benefit for a ground up EV is the packaging, it should enable a larger interior/load space for the same size car. Sometimes battery size, weight and efficiency is impacted but that depends on the platform. But that's about it really.

Yeah the i4 M50 is something like ~2200Kg, where as a Tesla M3P is only ~1800Kg, pretty sure if the BMW was 400Kg lighter it would be better. There has to be a great deal of excess weight just in the deign to support things like an engine, exhausts, a gear box, not to mention sub optimal weight distribution and aero dynamics deigned around having to have a long bonnet due to the engine being stuck in the front.

I dread to think how a tool designed from the ground up for a specific job, can't be better than one that is designed as a multipurpose one size fits all design. I am pretty damn sure the next gen i4 M50 as a ground up design in ~2027/8 will be a massive jump up again, assuming they've got that long to get one to market to stay competitive.
 
The IPACE isn’t much lighter and that’s ground up, but it’s not a small car, with small tyres, offers more than moderate road isolation and other premium “legacy automaker” technology options are present. Both the I4 and IPACE have a full size hatch for example. Also Tesla have the ability to ignore existing design standards and rules when they start fresh.

CLAR is modular and the bulk of the floor changes, so the gearbox point is pretty irrelevant when it need to hold a 550kg battery, between the ICE and BEV variants and the front load structure still has energy to deal with. as CLAR is longitudinal engine it doesn’t comprise the front end package as much as a transverse engine by pushing the main body structure outboard.

BMW is modular that’s all, Tesla completely redesigned the 3 from the S platform so it’s a similar story. Easy to invest in new when you have limited commitments and daft market cap.

long bonnet is within the proportions of what BMW may want anyway, an length helps as they can push the base of screen forward for aero. Its actually the leading edge of the bonnet you want low as an aerodynamicist but some designers may not want the look of a Leaf or Tesla frog trade that for the space for their family grille.

basically all these merits are significantly oversold. Like everything with time 5% of people will even care about vehicle mass. Especially when you have a bi directional powertrain system.

The Hyundai Kona is lighter than a model 3 and that’s not a fresh EV….
