EV general discussion

I dunno the old range was just a bit of a mess, too many models with names that didn’t really mean anything and very small gaps in the price points.

The bottom of the range was cut down to the extreme and you can tell they didn’t actually want to sell you them but they were there to meet a certain price point (E.g. steal wheels on a near £30k car…).

They’d be better off with 3 distinct trim levels, with the middle and top given the 54kwh and 77kwh options (ditching the short range one completely) and the top model given the all wheel drive option.
 
Should have an M3P arriving in May. Was supposed to be completing on a house this week but that is looking precarious now so had to work out new plans for charging from the current flat I’m in. Fortunately it’s a ground floor flat next to my parking space. I can probably get a 32A commando socket installed so I can get 7.2kW (I’ve got 2x100A circuits and one of them only has 3x20A breakers on it).
 
the vw id3 range reduction - as well as chip supply issues - probably helps with wltp re-qualification - if you are making s/w performance updates, playing with heat-pumps and battery management for multiple models with different electrical equipment that can't be negligible development cost.

Ev platform sharing is working in the favour of credibility for the brands like Renault with nissan and peugot/gm - like it had done for skoda joining VAG -
you start looking at the mechanical risk/build of these platforms as reduced versus their independant legacy developments;
... to wit. - watched a megane e-tech review - saloon proportion/ice weight 40kwhr just 1600kg/android automotive(even if its lacking apps)

It needs a new radio/headunit. Long story, but essentially it was flashed as part of another repair for water ingress/damaged electrics, and it’s now a brick.

I’ve been driving an X1 xDrive PHEV since October (put around 3,000 miles on it), which essentially drove my decision to going fully electric.

I've had a Velar HSE since November and can't wait to give it back.

Yeah, my mother had the I’d.3 ordered in pretty much the exact spec they’ve announced so hers now has a build date, and as they’ve bundled in the options she had as standard, they are now honouring her original base car price without options, which saves £3k.. at least someone lucked in..

Skoda interior leaves a lot to be desired, even more so if coming from a modern Audi. You not considering a fat e-tron?
Q7 TFSI e has the same engine as your 55TFSI plus some batteries in the boot. Good for 25 miles, so worth considering if you do lots of short journeys..

it's not too bad eg. 20mm more than a polestar 2 .. in that segment the independant rear suspension looks better than more attractive astra design (they'll reuse for their ev version)
... but everything, excepting high end taycan, is more than a legacy saloon of 1400 ... and doesn't the taycan have battery problems, but maybe unrelated to foot-well/xmission tunnel batteries ?

Good though it is the Skoda is an obvious downgrade to your A7. Surely the Audi E-Tron GT is the perfect car for you coming from an A7?

It won't be as nice as the Audi because it would be a waste of money to make it so. No need to compete with themselves, VW make products aimed at all parts of the market with different brands in order to do so. Getting a Skoda to feel like an Audi A7 would be a waste of money that would then make the Skoda less attractive to its target market anyway.

Spec alone is not enough or Kia would have topped the sales charts with the Stinger rather than all but withdrawn it from sale.

Yes, but spec won’t make a difference to the quality of interior plastics. It is a significant step down from an Audi, no two ways about it.

Not saying it’s bad, but it’s nowhere near the level of the more expensive VAG brands, and that’s the point. Skoda interiors went down hill after the first Superb because they were taking sales away from the more expensive VAG brands.

I went straight into an Enyaq from an e-tron sportback and I noticed it as soon as I opened the door.
 
Yep, the Q4 e-tron felt far nicer inside than the enyaq, shame the only way to get a pan roof was the vorsprung edition, but the optional quilted leather was nice. I didn’t’ think think in the end it was worth it and would have gone for an Ioniq 5 premium with tech and eco packs for far less..
