ONTO include free rapid charging so why use a free Pod Point that other people could be using for some of the time you've abandoned your vehicle there? Hope you don't get a ticket from Tesco either as ONTO will charge you a small fortune for the admin privilege. :)

We had a home charger installed from a company called cracking energy (EGG). You rent it, pay £30 per month. To be fair I have only used it once for a few hours to just make sure it worked. No contract, installation free, cancel whenever you want. For us it seemed a no brainer.

Why would I get a ticket? I park it up at about 12.30am on my way home from work then collect it at 7.30am. My Tesco closes at 10pm and opens at 6.30am - fail to see what I am doing wrong?

Edit - Or might be 6am they open, one of the two

Unless you live near one of the very few Tesco with no parking restrictions in place then you should read the below, and they enforce the parking out of hours for lots of the shops/car parks.

"Is it free to park in Tesco car parks?
Free parking is available in most stores but time is limited to a maximum stay, depending on where the store is situated.
Where there is a maximum parking time, our car parks have signs which clearly display the terms and conditions of using the car park, including the maximum stay time. This time limit should also be shown on a sign at the entrance.

Yes. The Parking Charge Notice for overstaying is £70, but this is reduced to £30 if it is paid within 14 days.

I guess I am very lucky and live in an area with one of the very few Tesco's with no parking restrictions then. I already checked this before parking it down there the first time.

The insurance you pay for in the subscription cost of the car.

You will have declared the address it is kept overnight - they will not be insuring you on the fact it is left overnight in Tesco's.

You don't declare where it will be kept overnight at all! You declare what is on your driving licence - at no point do they ask where it will be kept overnight, neither has the lease company.

Well since you are new to the EV market, Shell Buckden has 4x 150kW ultra rapid chargers that are free to use with you ON.TO subscription, and instead of leaving the car parked all night in Tesco you could add a significant % in 20 mins. :)

I am well aware Shell has the rapid chargers - usually only 2 of them work. And why should I not leave it parked overnight? I fail to see what I am doing wrong?

I was looking out for you, to avoid you getting fined or the car potentially damaged. I know many who've dealt with ON.TO/Eveezy via insurance and PCN's etc. I don't really care what you do, sorry for trying to make sure you weren't going to end up out of pocket. Where is it that I am appearing hurt?

Selfish actions like this are ultimately what is going to mean the end of free destination charging. At the end of the day, even if you aren’t directly inconveniencing someone, you aren’t playing fair and using the chargers as intended (for an hour or so whilst actually being a customer), you are taking something you aren’t paying for.

Ok, let’s look at it another way, imagine they offered free water to top up your washer fluid, but instead you filled up an IBC then took it home to wash your car and water your garden? Would that not be stealing?

Of course. But Pod Point who provide the charging do not specify a time limit or anything else. You just have to open an account and put credit on it (which won't get used here as it is free). But it is nothing like the scenario you described as that would be stealing because it has been sepcified for a purpose and an amount. I am neither stealing, as no amount or time limit has been specified or indeed a minimum spend in the shop has been asked for, nor inconvienicng anyone due to the time when I charge the car.

So, again, please edit your post.

Yeah that's a decent deal. Smaller battery presumably and the outgoing model? Do you have to put a deposit on those salary sacrifice deals?
 
Leaving a car that’s fully charged connected to a charger overnight is poor form.

Pretty lucky to not get stung with idle fees.
