EV general discussion

None of that SUV lot are going to get much over 3m/kwh. No aero and too heavy.

We have a fleet of 1000 or so where I work and there are some woeful real world figures around, mainly linked to SUVs. ID4 seem particularly poor with the 55 battery, seen some struggle to do 150 miles over the last few months. I pace doing 2 miles per KW in winter. Yuck.

The model Y has held up by far the best particularly with the charging network and the little Hyundai 5 isnt bad for its size. There are some Nissan ayria (?) getting good results as well.

Away from SUV the new Hyundai 6 looks very good.
 
Ah the guys who didn’t pursue a career in the automotive industry but are self claimed experts from a few Google searches seem to be quiet now ?

This would be my worry, my iPace hasn't filled me with confidence and JLR really cheaped out on the entertainment system. When my iPace was in the dealer for 3 months I had a Velar that was pretty flakey too.

I think the fact they have now recalled every Ipace sold in North America won't help people with confidence buying a Jaguar anymore either.

Lower EV efficiency doesn’t really matter too much when it’s about 1.5p per mile and only time a public charger is required is for 2 trips a year. [splash and dash]

Its a company fleet of a thousand vehicles, it's probably fair to say many of them do more than two trips a year :D

touché - the mate with the company car who can drive you up the motorway at warp speed for weekend warrior road trip activities, on company rubber, is very popular
- long weekend climbing in N Wales or skiing/600miles round trip, and shared driving - the ev range/efficiency without long stops, or destination charging, is important,

Rowan Atkinson loves electric cars but also apparently thinks they aren't very good. Too heavy apparently. And he'd also like to remind us we're buying cars too often and that's damaging the environment.

When I read these articles I can't help but think oil/ICE lobbying.

All I know is my sister and her family are EV converts and I had nothing to do with it, they don't wanna go back to ICE. Their first EV (MG ZS) only has 100 miles range, less in the winter, they got introduced to the hassle of the charging network. Even with that hassle they still don't wanna go back to ICE cars :) They're going back to owning a second car again - Funky Cat :) and then probably a replacement for the MG, likely the MG4. Plus home charger install. Woop future weekly charge for me ;)

I'm going second hand EV in a few years, just running my current ICE car into the ground first.

Some in the oil/ICE industry are in full meltdown because of EVs.

Watch how in 10-20 years from now today's EVs will have 300,000 miles on the clock and still going, no one will need a new car. Terrifying ;)

His not wrong in that keeping old stuff running is better than building new stuff in terms of total emissions. It does nothing for local air quality mind.

That said, it’s an interesting take coming from a person who could probably equip an entire village of households with cars and still have some left over.
