I’m sure they have actually been working on this for a while but it was just two years ago they were all publicly ‘sucking in air through their front teeth’ whenever anyone mentioned a BEV. At least one of them still does [Cough]Toyota[/Cough].

Good to hear. I was expecting to want an id.3 when I buy in future, but definitely keeping my eye on the MG5 as I do love an estate. Hoping the MG5 gets a little bit more "flash" by the time I can buy, things like digital dash etc. Still feels a bit too much like a traditional car.
The MG5 is going to get a refresh shortly, looks pretty decent.

I'm sure in the context of EVs that is probably still a safe assumption, as the ID3/4 is such a big play for them. That said I still think the way early ID3 customers were knowingly sold a car with duff software "but it's ok, we'll fix it at some point" was a pretty poor show.
The VW brand seems Teflon coated though as people still hoover them up in many cases without even considering the alternatives. I had a B6 Passat company car which was what I always associated with VAG. Bland but solid and pretty much bomb proof, same story with my wife's old mk3 Polo. The later products just feel like too many corners have been cut and glossed over with unnecessarily complex infotainment systems and ambient lighting. Our mk5 Polo doesn't seem all that great but even that is so much better than the mk6 courtesy cars I've had.
Toyota are an interesting one though and their massive market share in places like the middle east must be a consideration to them when planning their strategy going forwards. For people like me who have the stereotypical mid spec, BIK constrained, C/D segment estate for hacking about to customers in that could become a fleet favourite if they play their cards right. I'd happily even take the current model over my Leon and wave goodbye to my monthly tax deductions. Just a shame that due to doing almost no business miles since COVID hit I've got a suspicion that they are going to try and stretch out my current company car by an extra couple of years
To be fair a colour TFT wedged between two analogue clocks is pretty much the definition of a traditional setup from the last 10 years or so!It has a digital speedo and the below in the central part
Not that I mind traditional clocks though but I would never use that analogue speedo. Whoever decided that major markers only need to be shown at 20 mph intervals needs a boot up the bum. It is better than the one on my Leon though which has markers every 2 mph and barely any difference for the 10 mph interim points. Which is why the "MFD" ends up being a "SFD" only showing the speed.

How do you find the sound system in the MG5? I know the interface is meant to be a bit of a mess but how do you find it?
more importantly what colour MG 5 ?
for all tablet cars, how long is it before you just want a plain blue/non-distracting background, like my windows wall-paper - not a fan of distracting graphics or gratuitous animations, ambiance lighting.
I've an ageing 3 series touring to replace so mg5 is interesting, it's business sound system wasn't all that,
so had updated the speakers and HU, but, the problem is, that market is dieing, with the integrated systems (and PCP's)
Would be interesting to know what kind of costs an mg extended warranty incurs, for longer ownership.

The warranty on the MG did look slightly worrying, despite the 7 year headline most things are only covered for 3 years when you actually read the detail which seemed a bit pants compared to the Korean ones.
Still a high up contender for my next car regardless though.

Tesla has just opened up Model Y orders in European LHD markets for Sept delivery.
They’ve just done RHD models in HK so can’t be long for the U.K. now….
Edit: spy shots of the ID Buzz also published. I’d agree with the writer, nothing like the concept and rather ugly, hopefully that’s just some camo and the production version is different.

It's the 3yr/45k mile limit on all the running gear and infotainment that is most worrying.
I wouldn't expect much more given they're cheap Chinese cars.

Tbf 3 years is ok i guess, same as Tesla? it's just that it makes a big song and dance about having a 7 year warranty and it turns out that's pretty much a lie for the bits which actually matter.
but, how many other cars are the same ?

Would be a good choice for my sis who by coincidence is moving back from Hong Kong shortly. Of course I'd like to cherry pick all the best tech in my next Tesla but I can see the Model Y being the more popular car for resale later on.
There's a lot more competition in the market now compared to when they first announced it.
Can't see it being a top seller at that kind of price when there's IONIQ, EV6, ID4, Enyaq etc. going for much less
As lord robs said, having the central TFT isn't the same as a digital dash really, and is already pretty much standard everywhere. I want full replacement of everything analogIt has a digital speedo and the below in the central part
