Makes you wonder why Audi bothered with the phat etron if they are only ever going to ship one car using that tech. I guess it made a good learning exercise.
 
Your not wrong though :p I'm sure there was also an element of 'if Tesla can sell a Model X for £100k (with its not a £100k car interior), we can get a piece of that action'.

Didn't it cost Audi something obscene to develop too?
 
EQC really is just a GLC with a motor and batteries. At least the e-tron is its own model, even though it’s built on the MLB evo platform.

If this new P3 is on the Volvo/Polestar SPA platform, will that be shared with ICE as well then rather than something purely for EV? Doesn’t sound ideal.
 
Etron is a mix of Q5 and Q7 content with aload of extra material in the body and floor pan. The facelift is rumoured to be getting a fair amount of uplift on the driveline with new motors, probably a cell upgrade too.

SPA2 is the one the Lotus Eletre is also on. Won’t be a mixed platform. Native BEV. Will have to see what details come for the P3, P5 patent images look very similar to the precept concept including no rear screen.
 
PPE's going into the A6 estate e-tron ... long live the saloon aero form factor - that'll be expensive though; just got to wait for bmw's electric touring.
 
my pug 208-e has been delayed to mid August now from the original mid May.

Googling ive read that peugeot are not as badly delayed as others and are 3-4 months behind so im hoping for a car around September
 
Decided to take the salary car allowance and put it towards one of these. Nothing too special with this one but they aren't all that common in the Emirates - mainly see some tech kids driving around performance or p100d models, or mainly Indian dons in middle management jobs.

Betrol prices slowly creeping up here (was about 62p/L in October now 82p/L), uncle Elon is still covering the supercharger bill across the Emirates, public charging is either free/cheap and parking is free (not that parking is much of an issue tbf).

I have yet to take it out on a longish drive outside Dubai to other Emirates to see how the charging network is like, but it isnt too bad in Dubai - plenty of on the street chargers (albeit in random places) although there are only 3 Tesla Superchargers. I must also have a heavy foot as I dont drive much (lets say 70-100km on a busy day) and I rinse the battery to about 20%.

Not given up on ICE though as the Charger Scat Pack is still here and I'm looking to pick up a Cadillac CTS-V

Does dubai average temperature - not have a particular impact on ev range their , with both battery and cabin cooling needs ?
surprising petrol prices haven't been subsidised there better .. if anything like russia where profits from exports get used to that end.

seems a significant uptick in tv ev advertising (social media too?)- now seeing genesis and toyota's beyond zero (cool branding) , renault e tech.
... still waiting to see a tear-down of the renault/nissan platform, which is giving cars as lightweight as tesla m3, without the likes of mega-castings (no one else seems to have invested in that tech yet)
 
ramble ramble ramble… m3 doesn’t have castings and Volvo are doing similar.


Anyway just drove from midlands to Manchester. 95miles and still got 66% battery. This warmer weather is great for a motorway trip even with AC did 3.1miles/kWh. Maybe it was that service it just had (brake fluid/cabin filter only after 22k miles) :p

With die casting, one important aspect is that there is a noticeable reduction in the service life of the die-casting moulds. Due to so-called thermal shock, the rule of thumb is that a die-casting mould is good for 100,000-150,000 shots. By contrast, one forming tool is used to make 5m-6m parts. So, we are talking about a factor of 20 to 30. There is quite clearly a limited volume range for which the casting-intensive solution would be appropriate. To me, aluminium casting holds little appeal for very small and very large volumes. Especially for mass production in the millions, you would need about six or seven of these expensive die-casting moulds. We estimate that the die-casting form for the single part, rear-end of a Tesla would weigh about 80-100 tonnes. This translates to huge costs for handling and the peripheral equipment, in the form of cranes, for example. Die-casting moulds also pose technological obstacles and hazards. The leakage of melted material is cited as one example. The risks of not even being able to operate in some situations are not negligible.
