EV general discussion

That suits me. I was looking at putting 14k down (maximum they allow) then it's £30 a month for 24 months then another £13k at the end to keep it. So for me it's like pay 50% now then pay %50 in 2 years. I do intend to keep the car for a good while though.
If it's 0% which is what you mentioned, why would you negate that by putting down a huge deposit? You are literally costing yourself money.

How? Cars still going to cost me £28k after 2 years. If I pay less deposit then the monthly is more. Or am I missing something.

You could be earning interest on the £14k? Alternatively they will likely sell you the car at a lower cost if you are paying an APR on it that is not 0%.

As a quick dirty example on a 4.5% over 2 years, with a monthly withdrawal of £200 (car payment) you'd make £1,100 interest. If they force you to put £8k down, you'd make £600 still on the other £6k.

Renault are maybe the nastiest car company out there. Yes, they advertise 0% APR PCP all over their web site. But they don't mention that 0% applies only to 2 year contracts with a minimum deposit of 8000 quid - for the cheapest Renault 5. If you want the mid trim Techno and the big battery, the min deposit for 0% is close to 10000. So for 98% of the buyers the ARP is very high - 6.4%. On top of that they give the green color Renault 5 for free - color that almost no one will want - for any other color it is 650 quid minimum extra. On top of that the factory in France that makes them has a big backlog, so one has to wait around 3 months to actually get the car, if ordered now.

A friend of mine bought a black Techno Renault 5 with 52 kWh battery, that was used as test drive car by the local showroom - so he got it right away. It's a really nice car, I like the denim interior. The 150HP motor is punchy, the car is quite light for an EV - a little bit over 1600kg if I remember correctly.
Not sure any of that really makes them nasty, it's just the terms of the offer. Green has been reasonably popular and it was a good decision to make the free colour a bright noticeable one, yellow seems to be the most popular by far though based on the poss on the owners groups.

There are often in-stock ones from demos, cancelled orders etc available to buy immediately as you've said, though if you want a specific trim, colour and decal combo that might not be an option. What's more frustrating is that the UK doesn't yet get options that the rest of Europe does, like the HK audio system or the ability to spec heated seats/wheel on the Techno trim.

You're better off paying the minimum deposit required for the 0% offer, it costs you nothing extra and you can earn interest on the difference in the meantime. This is what I did with mine, though they seem to have bumped up the minimum deposit amount required since then.

Blame the Mrs, she drives it 99% of the time and that's how she wants it in the drive.
Personally I'd just reverse up to the gates however if you leave enough room to get things in and out of the boot which is virtually every time she comes in then the cable doesn't reach so it means pee'ing about.
Don't worry about it Simon, you have no clue so pointless debating it.
Woah, you took him seriously?

All this 'banter' reminds me of the guy in work who is tight as you like, went for the 5M cable as it perfectly reached his charging port and "I'm not paying when I don't need it".. only for a year later to change cars and the ports on the other side, he has to park nose in at a jaunty angle to make it reach and he's already hit the gate post and his Mrs' run-around..

I went for the 7.5m option, this can reach all 4 corners of my car, and at a pinch can reach the roadside, and our second drive.. it was £60 extra though.. £120 for the 10m which I didn't go for simply as it would make the cable more 'obvious' as you can't hide it all so neatly on the Hypervolt..

Just explaining why we put the car in front of the window because he thinks it's strange.
Oh but he was joking wasn't he :)
Its no big deal, I just connected 'wife couldn't be bothered to charge' due to the fact parking to charge was an effort due to the reasons you've shown, . Anyway what are we even on about with the rest of it, this all comes from people overthinking charging a car. Not sure why you still say I have no clue? stop the drama. you gave all the clues that you basically should have got a longer cable.

Agile was cheap last night, filled the car sub 3p/kWh. one benefit of crappy storm weather. I have two cars on drive so 8m cable was £90 on top of the free install (came with car), so definitely worth it to save the faff of moving cars to charge etc.

Oh and £14k down on a R5 of cash to avoid 0% interest seems crazy idea.

I was thinking of upgrading my Hypervolt 2 to a 3 as I believe you can still get discount and a very favourable swap out fee is offered.. this would leave me with the Hypervolt 2, and the question is simply if I then get that installed on my other drive, so I'd have two chargers, one for each EV..

Financially it makes no sense, I have been free charging at work with both the cars for months, I just do the odd IO charge to keep Octopus happy..

I am only thinking ahead as I'm about to be unlooped so they'll be pulling a new cable into the house (My meter is now internal due to building an extension around it), so I could ask for them to pull in some extra cable for the charger, or ducting to allow it to be easily installed later, that would allow the cabling to all be kept buried under ground and keep things neat.

Dunno. His sexist comment about how I should congratulate a person for reversing was weird too

This is the end of this topic. Can we get back to cars please

HK r5 seemed that some uk users were going aftermarket anyway - think the link I followed was pistonheads, (those aftermarket folks are on the ball why can't we go back to DIN)

I see the Smart #5 is available to order now. I quite like it. Would like to see one in the flesh and have a drive, for sure. £47k for the Pulse edition.
