EV general discussion

the only thing I want clarity on is when the 24hr period resets. if it's midnight I can work with that without any change really.

if it is 11am as someone else suggested would be sensible then that will mean some juggling as well as having to pay more probably once a week or so for 5 months of the year.

It will put my expenses up however if I were to run with one of my career changes I have been considering (driving instructor or airport run taxi driver)

If they offered it on more than one car then I think intelligent drive would work better for us once this comes in but it's still limited to a single car per household afaik

I charge both my cars, just dont tell anyone ;)

some months done 900kWh and dont forget standing charge and day rate is lower.

I think this is fairly clear:

Interesting - must have missed that bit somehow! Yes, that does seem pretty clear... although in that case, what's the point of having a "fixed" off-peak window, if it could actually be treated as not off-peak depending on how your charge is scheduled?

If they're clamping down on it, then I wonder how long before I get kicked off, considering I have a dumb charger and my car isn't compatible!

It's frustrating that non-intelligent Go has both fewer off-peak hours and a higher off-peak rate :(

They're effectively treating household and charging usage as two independent things now, it's easier to make sense of from that perspective I think.

Charging - you'll get 6 hours maximum at 7p, full price after that, regardless of when IOG schedules the charging.

Household - always 7p between 23.30 and 05.30 and potentially also 7p at times the smart charging happens to have been scheduled outside of that window. Full price otherwise.

Yeah, makes more sense when you look at it like that, so if you're "smart" with when you plug in and charging limits, you could still play the system somewhat to get up to 6 hours of off-peak rates for the household usage during the day

Pair it with a charger and they can’t tell you are charging more than one car with it. Job jobbed.

Theoretically yes, you could still slow roll your charging and force longer schedules but I would expect there will be increased vigilance for this pattern of behaviour. Wouldn't be hard to spot potential abuse with data analysis.

Longer term, I wouldn't be surprised to see IOG become further restricted to 7kw chargers only, as granny chargers will continue to result in additional cheap slots for people using them to add more than about 12kWh per day.

I think you need to jump through a few hoops now with customer services to onboard a charger if you have a compatible car. Or lie about the car and say it's a non compatible model.

For some reason I thought it only worked with compatible cars. In that case I may be onto a winner, we've already got the charger paired anyway as the Kona isn't compatible.

Time to get the spreadsheet out and do some sums.

Edit: appears they've closed signups at the minute anyway, do we think it may be a sign that they're going to be making changes there as well?
