EV general discussion

The octopus related socials are really hot right now :p

Its not a huge cost difference is in reality, £8-9 on top of what you would have normally paid, still hugely cheaper than ICE. Octopus are probably waging the bigger users are mainly company car drivers, who will just make a little less money, but still be quids in.
true but I can't help but feel a bit death by 1000 cuts.
I am not getting rid of my EV but with per mile fees, a.£200 VED and now potentially significantly more costs for charging if you tend to do long journeys Incan see why some feel it's been a rough period for EVs.
yes they are generally still cheaper than an ice but the gap is significantly smaller now for 2nd hand cars.

You didn’t see this coming ?

Tbh if running an EV becomes as expensive as a petrol I would still have an EV. I much prefer the way they drive and it’s considerably easier to fuel it too. I hope it doesn’t happen but tbh I think it will slowly.

If you don't have solar then eon next smart is the EV tariff you want. As long as you have a compatible car/charger

Indeed, it's the Smart version I'd be looking at

Can't get that one, it says your car isn't ready for it yet. If it's not ready for it after all the time the Leaf has been around it never will be.

Had a Easee One charger fitted today, and as far as a wart on the wall of my house goes, it's fairly unobtrusive and was easy enough to set up.
Fuse energy (I'm already with them) worked out quite a bit cheaper than Octopus as a full charge will last my Nissan Queef around 7 days.
I am however a bit disappointed that I didn't receive a "I'm holier than thou" certificate or some sort of saints halo to wear due to me murdering less polar bears or preventing global boiling or something.
I shall be writing a strongly worded email to the doom goblin Greta to voice my displeasure.
It's kinda taken the shine off the whole experience if I'm honest :(

if you can't get next drive smart you're better off sticking with IOG
I've not sure about other providers as I've only ever considered eon and octopus, so please do look around too
the eon's EV tariffs have eye watering standing charges so it's not worth it nowadays

Nissan Queef
oh dear? hopefully it ain't too fishy

Yup I just prefer driving EV, I'd still have an ICE sports car if I ever won the lottery but for day to day it's EV all the way

It's because you bought it used, it only comes with new cars for the first owner - you've not helped at all, hence no certificate, should have done some research before purchasing.

Get a stone hitting the wrong place on the underside of your car and its basically a write off. I will be sticking with ICE cars for now.

Technically it can be a thing with a high energy impact - there are specs (though not sure how relevant) for most EVs as to the max penetration before it is considered a critical issue and separate to that it can fail an MOT if a tester thinks it serious enough (somewhat subjectively I suspect but I might be wrong - but they probably aren't going per spec for each vehicle). In the event that it requires replacing the whole battery that is potentially a write off EVs due to the cost.

Personally not aware of it happening to anyone with an EV and in several decades only aware of one instance where that happened with the kind of required level of kinetic impact and that wrote off an ICE... so...

EDIT: But that isn't normal stone flicked up while driving kind of thing - to do that kind of damage you'd have to say take your EV extreme rallying or something.

Be interesting to know if they had any additional protection on say:

Is there’s any risk of shock, the test would be abandoned (same as if there’s a fuel leak etc).

I had the low battery warning come up on the EV for the first time in my ownership the other day :D. Totally miscalculated the distance I had to drive and the warning came up at 10%. The dynamic range said another 31 miles were available but it was night, lights and all the ancillaries that come with winter driving were on so I knew it would lower be than that. I wasn't worried though (honest!) and got home with 6% remaining.

What's the lowest you've drained the battery and has anybody actually ran out completely?
