EV general discussion

I've not had a heated windscreen on a car since my Mondeo many years ago :D. However, now that I've experienced it I'd gladly give up a heated windscreen for a heated steering wheel :).

I used to laugh at the idea of a heated steering wheel but these days I wouldn't say no, still not a fan of heated seats though just don't like heat being delivered that way.

I went out of the way to get a heated windscreen. We do a lot of short journey from cold. Waiting for the car to heat up and clear the windscreen before moving off, took as long as the actual journey. No longer an issue. You can't always plan to preheat. Though preheating is a similar massive time saver. Especially when 5 or 10 mins makes all the difference to beat traffic or get a train.

I like the heated seats. But I'd hunt also out a heated wheel next time.

I have not missed a heated windscreen, I like the Tesla’s OTT heating system, so it’s nice to just use the app just before getting coats/shoes/sorting the dog out etc, and 5 mins is all it generally needs, and the whole car is toasty.. Basically I would not want to sit in a freezing cold car with a clear windscreen by choice..

I use heated seats more to stop myself getting back ache than to keep myself warm. Even in summer I have the heated seats on for longer drives. I've considered them a must have since I first encountered them.

I never thought i'd care about a heating steering wheel either but after having one its amazing, same for heating seats as well but i do only like them on low, feels really weird on high.

What EV has a heating windscreen and no preheat.

Mines got a an automatic setting and it gets things nice and warm when it’s cold but then dials it back to keep things just right once everything is warmed up.

It’s actually pretty good and the seats have the same thing.

You miss the point, you describe a scenario where you set off 'from cold' and therefore need a heated windscreen (presumably to clear the screen instantly) which leaves you in a car with a cold cabin still..

I prefer to sacrifice the 5 minutes prior to departure to just open the app and start cabin heating whilst getting my shoes on, sorting the dog out etc so I always go to a car that is toasty hot with a fully defrosted windscreen and therefore haven't missed a heated windscreen yet..

Yeah, I'll take a warm cabin over a heated windscreen any day.

My car just has schedule that makes it ready for me to get in and drive off instantly. As Demon says, for unexpected journeys, it takes less than 20 seconds to start my cars pre-heating from my watch and by the time I've got ready to leave the house it'll be a decent temperature inside.

Yeah it’s fair point, I like the solar attenuating screens aswell for the other weather. Like when it’s hot.

Look at all the “tech” here being discussed that Tesla don’t have :p

Nearly as many as the snow! It was more evident on summer road trip 2 years ago to Lake Garda :D (yes i drove an EV for more than 50 miles in one direction)

Some farmer needs to bring some diesel to the generator, they were busy in Belgium apparently.

I’ll bring a baguette back cos cars with holders are clearly fun.

You can't always plan to preheat.

It's not really something you need to plan? Push the button on the app/key fob while you're putting your shoes on and grabbing your jacket/phone/etc. Unless there's 2 inches of snow on the windscreen, then those few minutes should be enough to clear it
