EV general discussion

Just went outside at work. Found an Audi EV and my Model Y have slid an entire car length down the car park.

Was the first time seeing that hahaha

Anyone owns EV without a drive or charging point outside their home, I am contemplating on leasing one from work.
I can charge car at work for free tho.

It’s workable in that case, but what happens if work decide to remove that ‘perk’ can you stomach the additional bills? How many miles do you do and what car do you have already, for me that determines if it’s a worthwhile change.

I do 40 miles a day using small petrol bmw1 series.

So roughly £6 per day - if you do that every working day of the year excluding weekends that is 233 days with 20 days holiday and standard bank holidays, so £1,398 of savings on your commute. Unless you are still paying for your car it might not be worth while.

Rub it in man, rub it in

sell it right ... and the value of a warm car in the morning/leaving work - that's priceless

I got weird looks pouring baby oil onto my Type 2 connector this morning.

That's quite a niche EV kink for sure, no shaming though!

Talking of cables and kinks (of a different sort!) I noticed that the charger cable wasn't as pliable in this cold weather and wondered if I'd have trouble removing it later. No worries though, it melts the snow around it...

My line manager does exactly this. While I haven't experienced this myself, it honestly sounds like a huge faff to me. He has leased a Tesla model 3 from work. He charges every work day at work using the charger in the car park. On the weekends, he'll usually go to his local Tesco to charge for a couple hours, as that's the closest charging point to him. His work commute is 25 miles a day.

The weekend thing just sounds a huge faff to me IMO. I'd rather have a charger at home for an EV, especially if I'm doing long distance driving regularly.

How slow is the charger at work that he needs to charge every day and also on weekends?

The Model 3 should be doing at least 200 miles on a charge so should get through the weekend?

That sounds like some bad range anxiety.

My teslas charge port froze shut this am.... Only about - 2 or - 3 seems a pretty poor design. Easy to rectify with warm water at home but what you meant to do if you're out!
