EV general discussion

Pick the Smart 5 Pulse up next week. Been a long few months. I've taken the end of the week off work to just learn about the car and nosey around it to get familiar. I'll try and wash it too as I have the Pan 1 year coating to apply if the weather gods are kind! Looking forward to driving it and enjoying the comfort and the range!

Nope. Not had any issues and passed it's first mot no issues. Fingers crossed it stays that way. If not it has 4 more years of warranty so they will sort it out. But yeah, hate the hassle.
It's very odd.

Firstly, I mistakenly charged my car to 100% two days ago. Not sure that's related. Usually I go to 80% but I plugged in two nights on the trot and the second time the battery had 100%

The AA came and said he had the exact same issue this morning with the same model and number plate year. He said he's never had that before (There's very few even on the roads, so what are the chances?)

He did all the testing needed but said it needs to go back to Genesis.

In the past, Genesis have always taken the car and replaced it with a like for like. This time I got a call from The AA to recover my car, and they said Enterprise would be in touch for a replacement car. They wanted me to get to my nearest enterprise to pick it up, which I can't do as I live a bit in the sticks and the public transport here is awful. It's a Peugeot 2008?

Looking at either a pulse, premium or Summit Smart#5. Took a premium out the other week and very impressed in how it drove and the interior. Really want AWD and like all the extras with the summit but the matte paint concerns me I'll be interested how you get on with it, not sure if it will have the latest SW but in the version I and most car reviewers drove an issue with how the consumption is displayed and shows a much worse reading than it actually is.

Hope it gets sorted out fast mate. So annoying when these things happen. I went EV to get away from my Diesel which had AdBlue tank issues and Peugeot screwing me over.

Will never buy Peugeot or a Stellantis car ever again.

So far been a pleasure with Kia, but time will tell.

Thanks! Interesting about the SW version. The chap helping me with the purchase said when it arrives there are SW things to do and update. So we shall see! I just hope it charges ok with Ohme and Octopus. My dad's Honda ENY1 just refuses to work on a schedule lol. I'll certainly keep an eye on the reported consumption.

I need to start thinking about the next EV for me, as worst case scenario, the ID7 is ending this year in October ish

I will probably buy one as I don’t think I’d ever lease a car again, as my experience trying to resolve any issues has been terrible.

Instead, I’ll buy one outright.

The thing is, I don’t know what to buy.

Must have electric memory seats and must have decent adaptive LED headlights.

Can’t be a VAG product.

350+ mile WLTP range as we do lots of long journeys - basically needs to do 200 miles on a motorway. Issue isn’t stopping it’s poor charging networks which I’ve experienced enough times to make it a requirement.

No Chinese brands.

Don’t like the Kia or Hyundai, they feel cheap and nasty.

The BMW is offensively ugly. I couldn’t have one on my driveway I don’t think.

Musk aside, the Tesla’s don’t do it for me. I find the ride poor and the lack of proper controls and displays, along with no proper CarPlay, writes off the car.

This really doesn’t leave many options!

The Merc was quite nice, and would be a contender if I could find one without the terrible steering wheel.

The Capri looks really decent but I’m nervous about it basically being an ID4 - will it have all the same issues?

Mach E looks okay, feels cheaper on the inside than the Capri though.

Polestar is okay but have heard of many issues with software and essentially a Chinese car with ownership structure.

The iX3 looked good but the range just isn’t enough.

Anything else I’m missing?

If the ID.7 didn’t have any issues, I’d have bought one, as it’s otherwise a brilliant car overall. Don’t ever feel like I’m missing anything.
Just get a tesla. Have you test drove a newer model 3/y? You don't need carplay

I can't yet see the Smart #5 on our order site but they seem to be having some sort of "launch" webinar so I assume it will be soon. I know they're a different platform but look very like a GLB/EQB in dimensional terms / shape - does that stack in the flesh/metal?

After nearly a month of public charging, finally charging at home. Combination of Andersen charger and kerbo charge pavement gully (installed by local authority).

A lot of setup but definitely happy with the result now it's all in place.

volvo rep on r4today this am about ex30 battery recalls - limiting charge level in the interim and providing free public charging;
she suggested inconsistently 0.0001% are impacted but 10's of K being recalled (maybe she meant number of fires so far)
what is the capacity/training of uk volvo network for fixing them.
older eqb recall too.

I had a slight moment of dread the other day when a red battery warning popped up on the Seal:

Thankfully it's just a battery calibration as I hadn't charged up to 100% in a while. Due to the way I was using the car the 7 hours cheap rate wasn't enough to fully charge it.

I’ve had that on mine - I just did as it said and no further problems. Fantastic car so far overall really.

@esmozz @Mysterae_ Quick question if I may on the Seal. Thinking in comparison to a Model 3, can you set user profiles that are linked to either a key or phone / app unlock that remembers said users seat/steering wheel / media (spotify) / climate preferences?

None of this would be a deal breaker for me going for a Seal (especially as my wife and I drive in the same position - same height ftw, and have similar musical and climate preferences), just wondering as its something I do like about the Model 3 over say our Ioniq 5. Technically the latter has profiles but they don't seem to do a lot in practice.

Yes, you can set up to 3 driver profiles as per the latest OTA update 2.1.1 that landed the other day. I've not tried it yet but I think you have to use the app on the phone to use the driver profile feature. It sets the seats and door mirrors accordingly.

This video explains it and other bits of the update:

I was just writing a post to say I didn't think you could when your reply popped up. I got the OTA update yesterday and had no idea it could do that. Good to know.

Here's another tip for you - after any OTA update it good practice to reboot the system afterwards (hold down the volume rocker in the centre console for 10 seconds) to clear any cache and reload the apps. Some people had GPS issues after some updates and this fixed the problem.

No jokes about closing Windows please :D!

Anyone driving/driven a Peugeot 2008E or whatever they are called?

Do not like...
