EV general discussion

Anyone with a KIA/Hyundai had the dreaded 'Check Electric vehicle system' error message?

Came up on my GV70 this morning, despite having already gone in for the recall work to replace the ICCU

The AA are on the way, luckily I am at home.

Could just be a 12V battery issue I guess....
August last year my EV6 went into limp mode. Was able to drive the 4 miles or so (at 25mph) to the dealer. ICCU was replaced after a couple of weeks. I'd previously had the updates. Apparently the software updates reduce the frequency that surges happen, and so effectivelt just push the issue down the line a bit.

But I just noticed this weekend that my car will not charge from any DC chargers, only AC. Tried 5 different DC chargers. I very rarely use a DC charger, so this was the first time I'd tried it since the ICCU was replaced. Apparently another subsystem (VCMS ?) can sometimes be taken out when the ICCU goes. However I'd assume that would produce an error code on it's own which would have been picked up by the dealer at the time. Anyway, it's booked in to get looked at.

Wonder if it is similar to a few others, where if you have an Ohme you need to also have a schedule in the cars own app to get it to take a charge. I'd try setting the charge schedule from say 17:00 to 05:30 in the car app, then using whatever timing you want in the Ohme settings, that way when the Ohme try to push a charge the car is ready to accept it inside of those hours. Does that make sense?

I don't have to do that with my OHME Home Pro. I set the percentage I want the car charged to in the OHME app and it takes care of everything, I don't need to set a schedule in the car as well. That's with dynamic charging enabled.

I still don't get how tribal some folks get over this. Buy an EV if it suits you, don't buy an EV if it doesn't suit you, but some folks carry on as if an EV is gonna come and set fire to all their ICE cars, murder their family and park itself in the living room and drink all their beer whilst hogging the telly remote.

I generally regard these people as idiots. They seem to lack the mental abilities to understand that loads of propulsion systems can coexist and that you can own one of each if you want and nobody will give a toss.

Very primitive mindset tbh.

"Geoff buys cars" on YouTube is hands down the worst for this. Must be making a killing from all the clicks he's getting from fellow simpletons.

It's like the old days of "burn the witches!"

I obviously clicked on something to trigger more of it but I must say it's somewhat amusing seeing a lot of the 'EV Guy' vs 'Geoff Buys Cars' and 'The Mac Master' on socials, or perhaps more so the various regular people that comment on it who seem so invested in it but don't have the excuse of making money from the arguments

The best place for this is any motorcycling Facebook group. A post "Zero launches new electric bike with 200 miles of range" results in a shedload of fully grown, presumably fully functional men frothing at the mouth more than a fat chick in a cupcake shop. The same with Chinese bikes. They bang on and on about how they'll never ride anything but Honda, they're either totally ignorant or too thick to remember what the British people said when the Japs arrived in the 70s.

The same Jap bikes they're riding today, whilst whining about Chinese bikes.

That being said, I find that motorcycling Facebook groups are a fantastic place to remind me how stupid I'm not.

It's crazy from both camps. Imagine having so little going on in your life that you feel the need to pledge some kind of allegiance to the fuel you put in your car.

We seem to have to cling on to our tribal nature though and I guess the fuel you put in your car is only slightly more ridiculous than which team, political party or imaginary god you align yourself with.

Personally I worship Zeus these days - he charges up my car in seconds when I pray for it!

It's all political and really just boils down to the fact that green = left wing and oil = right wing. The entire thing is embarrassing.

Most EV owners aren't getting them because they are better for the environment

More likely they drive them because company car tax, or the instant torque or the quieter drive.
