EV general discussion

e: maybe octopus will do a tarif for select few where you get payed to use the energy off peak, as they do
Their Agile tariff already does this, when they need to get rid of power from the grid the cost per unit is negative.

volvo rep on r4today this am about ex30 battery recalls - limiting charge level in the interim and providing free public charging;
she suggested inconsistently 0.0001% are impacted but 10's of K being recalled (maybe she meant number of fires so far)
what is the capacity/training of uk volvo network for fixing them.
older eqb recall too.
I got an email about the recall so just waiting on a call to book in, I'm expecting it to be a while before it's booked in though. Not heard anything about free charging though

Someone crashed into the back of me this morning. Car appears to be fine and not even a scratch or just minor ones but otherwise appears to be OK.

I've never in my 16 years of driving been involved with an accident before or the process but figured it was better to report it to insurance. It was a scaffolding company and they've offered to just pay for it. I have already reported it to my insurance but not really sure if that was the best move?

It's done now, don't worry about it. This way you're covered if anything comes to light which is more than possible with cars these days, they don't always have to look broke for something to have gotten out of shape and it's at that point the person who was quite happy to stump up changes their mind because it's no longer £200 at chips away to have the scuffs sorted.

Yeah that was my main thought was it may look fine on the bumper but if something was damaged underneath I would be liable for that at a later date. It was quite a whack and the car jolted forwards. I had expected to see a massive dent or crack but there was nothing

The rear crash bar could be deformed under the bumper even if there is no visible damage. That said I’m surprised there are not any broken clips etc on the bumper, they are pretty flimsy these days.

Open the boot, make sure it’s still assigned correctly. Get on your back and have a look under the car if there are not any trays in the way.

Yes, but most importantly, how is your neck? ;) :p

My wife genuinely suffered whip lash in an accident years ago, it took years to get a payout, many consultant appointments in London, so days off work etc. I can't imagine claiming for that has got any easier.

PS Get the car checked properly.

Anyone own a leapmotor? Theres a cheap lease deal on them at moment but looked at insurance and it's triple what we currently pay, a lot of places won't even offer it

I think the Frontera deals are back on this month similar costs, cheaper insurance. £168.19pm month on 1+23, 5k miles PA.

It can’t possibly be.
Insanely cheap though, and almost pointless actually buying a car if all you want is something to get to work and back and have no interest in what you drive.
Edit
That said, it does say something about the state of the market and the fact that manufacturers are pumping out utter soul destroying dross to meet targets, rather than making cars that people actually want to buy.
Bit of a sad state of affairs tbh.

I mean if you look at the best selling cars of the last 20 years can you tell me you love any/most them? People don't care and have never cared about cars if they just use them as a tool, same as a PC, or anything else that has a purpose and you use it. For cars I think most people just go, does it look nice (to them) is it in the colour I like, and if you are a chav how loud is it?

No, absolutely not.
The 80's/90's gave us some utterly superb cars (Renault 5T & Clio Williams, XR2/3 & Cossie's, 205 GTI/405 Mi16 etc I could go on forever).
It kinda makes me sad that the youth of today/tomorrow will never experience that mechanical connection with a car.
I guess it's called progress :(

Yes, and the half the problem with that is they have no attachment and treat them as such, ie very badly, and spend as little as possible on maintaining them to the point of the car being a death trap.
