having used public charging last week I think charging costs is still a massive blocker for those who are reliant on public charging.I didn't say you had to go any buy an iX3
A used model Y starts at a bit less than 60k, I'd say

I would say that too many people listening to internet bs, which is for the most part made up nonsense is a big factor too. I was seeing posts over the winter saying EV drivers were wearing big coats, hats and scarfs because they were afraid to stick the heater on and all the replies were making fun of EV's when in reality most of us can switch the heater on remotely while we are having breakfast and go out to a nice and warm thawed out car and drive away instead of scraping the screen of frost. It's all ignorance and because it's on the internet it must be true, right? Some people simply will not be swayed by the truth!!

the MPs themselves don't help in this regard tho. in an ideal world both the government and the main opposition would operate in good faith and certainly strongly fight their corner for issues they genuinely believe in... but equally work together in common causes. thanks to the way our system works the party in power usually has less than half the voters in the country. their job is to support even those who didn't vote for them. it would be nice if we had a little good faith between them. you can't blame the voters for being tribal when that is exactly how the MPs operate.

Definitely - what I say to anyone who asks (assuming I’m not just EVangelising on the street to anyone who listens, and anyone who won’t) is that I suspect there’s many more people that could quite easily live with an EV but don’t realise it, but it’s also not suitable for everyone in every situation.
I’ve survived quite happily for 3 years now in 3 different cars with different EV characteristics and been absolutely fine!

Luckily, as you can tell from my choice of propulsion, I am high up in the above average section of the population.
Anyone use Ohme + the VW group API? A week or so ago there was an update to the API T&Cs and now the API seemingly only updates every few hours, plugging the Ohme into the car doesn't seem to refresh it so it thinks the car is still on x% from a few hours ago. Wondering if others see this behaviour? If not I'll re pair the charger to the API.

didn't the roadster use bog standard lead acid batteries (I may be making that up )
edit I cheated and googled. I was wrong it used lithium ion and even had a decent range.
I was thinking of the original GM EV1!

Fine but they don't get driven much these days because they are so valuable and basically irreplaceable as there is so few left.
That car also has a quirk in that it's got a huge amount of vampire drain so if you don't store it plugged in for long periods of time, it drains down to zero and it bricks them. A few have inadvertently met this fate over the years although new/replacement packs are available so they wouldn't be scrapped.

I'm approaching a couple of weeks now with the 2022 Model Y I picked up from Tesla certified used. Some thoughts below. I'm coming from a 2.5l D5 volvo xc70 so my experience may vary from other people with more discerning tastes.
Buying experience:
Tesla were quite different from any other dealer I've ever been to: you pay in full in advance, then get the 2 week return period for any issues. No insurance product hard sells or anything like that. Unfortunately I ended up buying the car literally the next day after they stopped bundling Enhanced Autopilot as well as the discount on FSD monthly. There was no flex on that, I thought it'd still been included and that went into the premium for buying from tesla direct. Bit of a bummer that, and I'm not willing to pay £99/m for FSD until it's actually ready so I'll probably not see what that's like with this car.
Driving experience:
The main thing I was concerned about going in was road noise and harsh suspension as reported by others. I've not actually found either of those an issue at all coming from the volvo with a rattling dog crate in the back. In comparison the tesla has been pretty quiet, probably a bit quieter than the Niro I had for 6 months a couple of years ago. There's a bit of tyre noise but going up and down the A82 this weekend we remarked how quiet it was, other than the parts where the road is completely knackered but I'd challenge a more premium car to deal with that too. The Hankook EV tyres and sills are pretty good at shedding water, the volvo has a tendency to grab the steering in the wet (running similar SUV Hankooks but on 17" wheels) which was not the case in the tesla.
Efficiency on 240 mile round trip around 4mi/kWh so a bit less than I hoped especially in June but still a bit better than my previous benchmark e.g. the Niro 3. The tesla also seemed pretty good in a crosswind, requires hardly any fighting the steering compared to the volvo.
Stopped at the supercharger in Tyndrum for 8 mins and peaked at 200kW which was mind-blowing.
I mainly drive in chill mode with family in tow which has been plenty to overtake slow cars. Standard mode was fun, not sure whether I'd ever even need boost when standard is by far the fastest acceleration I've ever been in other than maybe a B6 Alpina I got a lift in once.
Overall really happy, there's a few things that do bother me that I hadn't seen a lot of mention of:
- clock size is tiny and hard to find at a glance. I don't want to have to ask for the time. There doesn't seem to be any way to change that and no third party apps. I did consider side loading a browser with a clock page open because half the screen is usually not really used when you know where you're going.
- no anchor points in boot to tie cargo to sides.
- not one that bothers me personally but Mrs shroomz likes to leave her phone at home and regularly uses the card key but annoyingly there is only the one touch point at the drivers door, none on the passenger side. We have the car seat on the passenger side at the back so it adds another step to getting in having to go round the drivers side to unlock the car before you can go back to the passenger side to load the baby in.
- issues with IOG, zappi, intelligent charging slots and my HA-predbat controlled home battery (Giv). Through the tesla IOG integration I had the bug that the Zappi wouldn't restart charging after discontinuous slots. Through the Zappi IOG integration predbat doesn't seem to always pick up the ev has continued to charge after a slot and dispatches the battery into the car for a bit. It's not that bad because predbat generally does freeze or charge the battery it's just bits when the Zappi is flicked onto Eco+ and the battery has an export slot half of it gets dumped into the car until predbat picks it up. I'm still investigating exactly which step needs improved, maybe I'll just ban evening exports if the car is plugged in. My charger is wired into my main CU not upstream so can't distinguish the two.
