EV general discussion

Had a nail in 1 of my tesla tyres.... 2 other ones advisory on my MOT...

Got 4 corners all changed + 4wd alignment + tyre warranty for near £1200 feels like murder. Went for Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 3 EV Sound Absorber

phew, good thing i stuck with 18s then lol
the 18 inch hankook ion evos are around £160 fitted per corner when i last looked
T2 model of tyre for the Y (255 45 R19 W XL) is pretty expensive at the moment. Good tyres mind.

Black circles have them listed at £275/corner. £80 off if you buy 4.

(Edit: kwik fit is cheaper @ £250 and 10% off if you buy 2 or more)

Pilot sport 5 isn’t much better at £255/corner with £40 off if you buy 4.

Tyres are incredibly expensive, no wonder a lot of people go for the Chinese Linglongs or whatever. With the improvement in Chinese cars and ine industry in general, have the Chinese tyres gotten any better?

Yes, vastly.
Not that long ago I’d see them after a couple of years with deep cracking/splitting and with the structure of the tyre basically falling apart, although that said, I’ve posted in the tyre thread about premium tyres doing similar after 3 years.

I had a continental do this. Strange thing was it was just one of the four that did it. One area of the tread block looked like fish gills all of a sudden.

Anyone got a Kia EV 6 what it like thinking of venturing into the market first EV car.

I read about some recall but I don't believe it's an issue on newer models 2025 onwards?

I have one love it.

The ICCU issue affects all the EGMP cars including the latest ones EV6, Ioniq 5 etc as it has never been changed. They have just extended the ICCU warranty to 15 years.

I wouldn’t let it put you off the EV6 is a great car.

It looks like ChargePoint is going fleet only for its own app/roaming service.

If you want to use a ChargePoint managed charger, you’ll have to use another ‘trusted app’ as they put it.

Has the issue with security been fixed for the Kia EV6? I saw a lot of posts about them being stolen in seconds (not a relay attack). Something to do with the rolling keys and a flaw in the way they have been implemented for all Kia and Hyundai cars.

Kind of it’s had software updates that help but the best thing to do is turn off proximity auto unlocking and then after locking hold both unlock and lock until the lights flash 4 times and then shove the key in a faraday box. It’s the proximity auto unlocking that made it vulnerable.

Later cars 2023 on have the updated software and keys to make it harder. Early cars can have a paid update same as Ioniq 5 to update the security system and 2 new keys.

I see you had the ICCU issue 3 weeks after buying! I have read it being an issue around has yours been fully fixed or will the problem likely comeback? how long did you have to wait to get it back, I guess it garage dependent but will Kia give you a courtesy car?

Also do you have 2026 version RWD or AWD? looking at 2025 myself to sip the depreciation.

Mine was the 12v battery which is another common issue. KIA replaced it with an AGM one and it’s been fine since. Had an EV3 for the day whilst it was sorted.

Mine is a 2023 GT
