EV general discussion

It is, so why are you bringing biofuels into it?

Because he/she/they think biofuels are the future but nothing points to this in reality at this point in time. Or that EV production and use still produces pollution. Ignoring that it is still significantly less polluting than fossil fuel use.

So instead of going to EVs to reduce carbon emissions, they want to put all hope in biofuels coming good someday soon. Biofuels can of course help, but currently (or indeed anytime soon) cannot replace fossil fuels completely.

Let ignore that EV adoption to replace most fossil fuel vehicle use is still our best currently viable option.

Perfection is the enemy of good. As the saying goes.

Strip away all the nonsense and it boils down to 1 thing. Efficiency. Engines are just not efficient. Not only that, but they're vastly more complicated. So why settle for extreme complication that has terrible efficiency? It just doesn't make sense.
Electric motors on the other hand do over 90% efficiency.

  • Fast Depreciation
  • High Purchase Price
  • Long Charging Times
  • Public Infrastructure Issues
  • Range Anxiety
  • Heavy Weight
  • Electrical Niggles
  • Battery Mining
  • Environmental Concerns
  • Manufacturing Emissions

Want me to go on? :p
I mean it is a better anti EV argument than one I had to endure the other week. They come up a lot in conversations with customers because of the business we are in.

"What do you think about electric vehicles, really."
Yeah, I think they are great and only getting better. Hopefully my next company car will be one.
"Yeah, but what about the batteries?"
What, you mean in terms of them degrading?
"No. The radio waves."
Er... what radio waves?
"It's a battery, yeah. So it is generating electricity, yeah. So it has to be giving off radio waves."
Umm... I mean technically it is storing electricity not generating it.
"Yeah but it is still electricity, yeah. So it's giving off radio waves. Would you be happy sitting on a battery giving off radio waves? Would you be happy SITTING YOUR CHILD on a battery giving off radio waves?"
.....
Oh, sorry my phone is buzzing in my pocket I think that must be the office trying to get in touch.

Is that a phone in your pocket sir/madam?

Hold it next to your ear do you?

And your children have one?

I think the 5G masts might be having an effect after all.

To get back on topic, I'm considering a Renault 5.

I think they look great, I've sat in a couple and found them to be extremely comfortable, but I haven't yet had a test drive.

Anyone have one, and able to provide thoughts?
