EV general discussion

Audi have cut costs too far basically. They are not bad cars but their pricing is premium and IMO is not justified. You mentioned getting a great deal, which is probably fair as a way for Audi to compete but on RRP I don't think they are in line with the BMW/Merc equivalents.

For the A6, apart from 800V why would you not get an ID7? For the Q6, who is picking one over the iX3?
Erm range, build, drive train, charging, looks. Its the same argument over most cars, personal preference for these things.

And having spent a while in the newer Mercs and BMWs I'd say they are all on a par, but different, thats why they all exist and why they all sell cars. I liked both the Polestar 4 I had and iPace, but they were again different

Worth noting Hypervolt still appears to have some issues with IOG if directly integrated, whereby they often seem unable to charge at full speed when controlled by Octopus - becoming more of a problem now Octopus have introduced the 6hr cap
Never had that problem with my Hypervolt 3 Pro. Seen plenty of complaints about Ohme chargers though.
On a side note, stopped on the M1 yesterday to charge at Gridserves Markham Vale Charging station. 400kW chargers, air conditioned services with very cheap food/drink and clean toilets. 50% discount on charging if you used the app. Very cool experience, but of course when I came out there was a petrol car parked in a charging bay. Must have heard about the cheap service station food!

My lease is coming to an end in December so need to start getting its replacement lined up, so far on my list I have

Kia EV5 GT Line S, though hoping the GT is annouced soon
Skoda Enyaq 85 or 85x Sportline
Toyota BZ4X Touring
Peugeot e5008

Lease costs they are all about the same, the top two contenders is the EV5 and Enyaq, both have similar boots, spec so not sure which way to look. I have had several Kia's and been happy with them, not had a Skoda before, both seem to be getting decent reviews, the Enyaq just had a little refresh with Android Auto headunit now rather than Skoda software.

Anyone driven any on the list, any thoughts?

Thanks

Join one of the IOG facebook groups, you'll see what seems like half a dozen posts a day of 'omg why is Octopus throttling my charge' from Hypervolt owners
I don't wish to join any fb group, I asked for citation please.
Never had any charging issue with my Hypervolt at all, are you sure these aren't earlier versions of the charger.
I also believe that the IOG uses direct vehicle integration with my i4 anyway.

EDIT: Looked at my charging statistics on the BMW app and all sessions were at a 7kW average.

It is a thing @cuke2u but it’s largely driven by people’s misperception of how IO works.

With certain cars and chargers, Octopus change the speed of the charge to maximise the grid payments they can get for having all these chargers enrolled. It’s just a massive demand flexibility scheme at the end of the day. I’ve seen them change the charging speed on my Tesla before.

If there is low capacity, they can turn chargers down and they get paid to do so, it’s working as expected.

People are getting their nickers in a two because they seem to think octopus will slow the charger down and therefore they won’t get charged within the 6 hours and be charged peak rate after this.

At the moment all the algorithm has to take into account is how much charge is needed, by when and the maximum charge rate.

In theory, once the 6 hour cap is introduced it will be how much charge is needed, by when, the maximum charge rate and how much time is left within the 6 hour allocation.

There isn’t actually any evidence that when it needs to take into account the 6 hours cap it becomes a problem. As long as the algorithm is updated to take into account the cap, it will work fine.

Part of the issue is Octopus spokes people also don’t fully appreciate this detail and as such aren’t able to give the relevant assurance.

There is no point in contacting support about something like this because they are not going to have a clue. But that doesn’t stop people from doing that anyway and posting a lot of speculation online based on the non-response.

That said Octopus have had enough time to get on top of this and update their FAQ’s but haven’t done so.

If you're integrated by the car then why would expect to see any occurrence of a problem that I said is only apparent with charger integrated setups?

Edit - If it's of any consolation, this is close as I can be bothered to copy out of the various private group posts etc. referencing it - this chap being the 'future technologies' lead at Octopus

Staff at Octopus acknowledge it doesn't yet appear to be behaving exactly as they expect, whilst other chargers that had issues like Ohme seem to have been corrected and are mostly operating as they should in line with the cap as it's rolling out.

Even bump charging my Hypervolt never hit 7.2kw on octopus, as soon as I switched to EDF that's generally where it sits any time it's charging

That seems to be the general complaint - when integrated, regardless of circumstance, some people never seem to see over 28A or 30A delivered but if they disconnect from Octopus control, it will deliver 32A.

Thanks all for your responses, as stated mine is fine and delivers 7kW @ 32amps but from what is being stated this appears to be something Octopus need to resolve.
On the issue of my Hypervolt's wifi connection, the replacement module has not resolved the issue.
Perhaps now they'll replace the whole unit but at the moment I've not got the time to hardwire it in.

Try hotspotting from your phone. I honestly do have the sneaky feeling it's due to the ofdma

Well, already having issues with the Hyundai.

Tried to clean the windscreen and nothing came out. Assumed the washer fluid tank was empty, but I went to put some in today and it was full. Just doesn’t work.

Sounds like the pump is working but potentially clogged, but given I’m having issues this early on, and given my history with VW my tolerance for problems on a brand new car is 0 - I will be rejecting the car.

Might seem like it’s a bit extreme - and it is, but I am absolutely 100% not getting myself into a 3 year lease on a car which is having issues from day one.

Not extreme in the slightest - it's still likely one of the most expensive things you "own" in your life, it should be right

I just don’t know if my expectations are misplaced at this stage.

I desperately just want to give some money over for something which works day one. A nice easy process.

Here’s money. I get working car.

Yet it feels like it’s impossible to manage it.

Christ my 12 year old 435i is broadly problem free, and the issues it does have are age related.

This is a brand new car - it had fewer than 100 miles on the clock when I picked it up, and it already has an issue.

Given:

1. Sold a car Id put a deposit down for + gone through finance for

2. They messed up on contract signature and advised me 3/4 of the way into my (2 hour) journey to collect the car to turn around and go home

3. When I finally had arranged to collect the car again, the contract they sent through has the wrong finance terms

4. I collected the car and the “prep” was awful

I think I’ve been more than reasonable at this stage. No more chances.

Some idiot probably just jet washed the nozzle happened on our Hyundai, swapped nozzle fixed in 10 minutes
