EV general discussion

There's solely 2 things that put me off the Tesla's as the 'go-to' EV. The lack of driver display & buttons (despite everyone saying wah wah it's a none issue, it is an issue, especially with no HUD)
and the way they look. I think they are ugly as ****

You get used to the display, and they've been refining the font size of the speedo over the years so I find that it's always in my peripheral vision. A HUD would be a big improvement, but after so many years of driving them I don't think about it anymore.

I know, but it's still crap and not as good as a regular car with a speedo.

Coming from multiple previous cars with HUD, I was worried I’d miss it, but as you say, it’s pretty well positioned in your peripheral vision. Certainly far superior to a traditional speedometer which is lower down and more difficult to glance at, IMO.

It will be a personal point as to whether its an issue or not but the fact that a relatively simple fix exists that you can add if you like is pretty awesome.

I've never driven a Tesla but I had no issue with the OG Yaris and it's central speedo. Pretty much the same thing, right? :p

So off to France for a week in the EV6. Any advice on chargers? At home 99% is at home with the Electroverse network doing the rest.

Any tips for France? Going through the tunnel and then heading towards Le Havre, so any recommended charging points near Calais?
Electroverse will be ace, Total, Fast Ned etc. Ionity Passport is worth a look as very frequent in the typical 'Aire' services

Avoid Tesla, Dogging sites, closed supermarkets, no lighting etc, off autobahn and not fast for generally the other market as the voltage is a little lower - tried in France at one where they werent connected to the internet so failed attempt too.

I got used to the speedo location after the test drive I had. Most speedos you glance down anyway so it's not really much different to glance slightly down to the left.

I quickly adjusted to the lack of driver display, but as others have pointed out there are options for those who cant get past it. The Sexy range of products being the most popular I think!

I'll never learn. I can't stop thinking about replacing the Highland Model 3 that I just sold..........with another Model 3. FFS.

They're just such amazing EVs. Every time I look at the Niro I wonder if I can live with the compromises like worse pedal calibration, software, no heat pump, crap audio system and app etc. The big downside of the Model 3 is that the body shape is inferior in terms of practicality, and the space in the rear isn't as good as the Niro.

We have a 2022 Model Y Long Range AWD which I've put 64k miles on, and I've put 10k on 2 x Model 3s so it's a platform I'm extremely familiar with now.

Besides being a musk groupie, what's wrong with having TWO model y? ;)

Thankfully with image hosting ive finally got round to posting my 2023 Italy trip based on the above. Final destination is multistory in Venice (central picture). All this data was from Tronity including the map so was pretty cool. Peages rarely got old in the IPACE either :D

Any questions jpaul is here to answer on my behalf. CMTMB

Ooof. 18p/mile...that's expensive!

I recall going to a supermarket keen to 60cent charge, turned out thats was AC and the Allegro DC was 85cents and i took 65kWh.

On holiday one does not care for such concerns. Tunnel is the biggest cost regardless.

This period was when i was on Go Faster anyway - 13p peak and 5.5p for 5 hours every night! Bonkers.
