How hard is EVE to get into , and being as its been on the go for years , is it worth playing as a newbie or will i get hammered all the time .
I got into WOW and was told the leveling isnt fun once your lv 80 that when the game begins , well after i got to 80 i was so dissapointed , gear score this and that you cant come on raid , you have to stay etc etc it peeved me off big time , i cant spend hrs at night infront of the computer.

so is EVE like WOW or different ? guild wise etc etc

I would say EVE is equally or almost equally demanding of your time. Just the way travelling works in that game, theres no "fast" method you always have to slowly work your way to your destination.

This is Eve's learning curve:

Granted, it's not that bad anymore, but it is certainly a lot harder to get to grips with than WoW. However, it is very newbie friendly due to its players. It has a really friendly and helpful community, and you can ask anything you want and find the answer within seconds in the heavily populated rookie channel. It's a great game and all the expansions are free and add great content. You can do anything you wan't in eve. You can be a peaceful miner making a nice ammount of ISK? (game currency). You can be a high risk miner, harvesting rare and expensive ore from dangerous sectors in space, prehaps relying on your Corporation (Guild) to defend you and scout the system. You can be a pirate, going alone or in tight knit groups, hunting out these miners to destroy them and take their hard earned loot for yourself. Or maybe you fancy hunting the pirates? The possibilities are endless. Eve is heavily run by its players, and thats why I love it.

The best experiences I've had on Eve is flying around in my disposable frigate with a friend or two taking out much bigger ships with hit and run tactics :D You can get straight into PVP after a day of training pretty much!

I hasn't played since summer, and I got an email recently about reactivating my account for 5 days. I have had 2m of skill points refunded to my char because they removed learning skills so might give it a go later

The aspect that sometimes puts players off is also its greatest asset; that of risk of losing loot and not just respawning with everything safe. If you die, it costs you time and effort but the kick you get from getting away from a fight unscathed or on fire with 75% hull damage is kinda cool.

Can't even compare the two really. When I first started pvp in EvE I used to get the shakes soooo bad and I couldn't hold the mouse, was so weird.

I miss it a lot sometimes and still toy with the idea of going back on occasions but 5 years was a long time.

Its definitely a game worth trying, one of the main issues that new people seem to have when starting is a lack of direction they finish the tutorials and think what now. Many people get into the habit of just constantly running missions to get better equipment, but eve is a lot more than that.

The thing you should do is try find a newbie friendly corp(guild) as soon as you can its meeting people in these corps that make or break the experience. Flying around in one of the npc corps just doesnt compare.

When i first started i was lucky enough to find a corp rather quickly since then ive never lost touch with those members and are still in a different corp now with some of them. We all still help each other out in times of need from using our specialities in PvP to help them with wars to going on and they give us free ships :) .

Just remember in Eve your not restricted to normal MMO rules you can quite literately do anything you want and people in Eve can do what they want to you its a cutthroat world where scams are rife and people will do anything to exploit and you use, but just remember you could be you :) .

The learning skills can take several days (you don't have to be logged on) will slow a lot of people down. Granted it's changed a lot since I last played it and you get a lot of free skills now but it still isn't going to be quick.

With WoW depending on the type of player you are you can just level to 85 in a few days with Eve there is no fast track.

You need to find a Corp ASAP. It's essential for eve. Eve has the best PVP there is today. Who gives a **** about arena rating and points etc. In eve you can lose your prize ship you have worked weeks for in less than a minute, or come out on top and be rewarded with riches and bragging rights.

I always dabble in piracy when I play and I found the best tactic is to ransom the ship instead of straight popping them. Some players will happily oblige as they may have some expensive implants or something in their cargohold, others will tell you to F off, in which you reply with a single barrage to finish them off ;) Of course you can always accept the ransom and blow them up anyway but that is incredibly lame and eventually no one will accept your ransom.

Learning skills have been removed and everyone with points in them has had the points refunded :)

oh Eve how i love to hate you! I started Eve way way back 6 years ago maybe, i played it and got bored fast. Since then i have gone back 4-5 times. The game has so much to take take in its incredible, I used pour over different information regarding mining/missioning/PvP etc etc and would end up giving myself a headache!

The game is amazing to look at and I'm really into sci-fi, BUT I will never go back!!

That said It is 100% worth your time to try it out, look for a corp named Eve University they will teach you the in's and out's of the game i learnt a lot from them guys and couldn't thank them enough.

But as someone pointed out there is no fast track in eve

EVE (like WoW) is one of those games I've never plucked up the courage to try. Stories of how it can get really dull, and the steep learning curve have put me off a bit.

I love, however, all the tales of massive thefts and corporate espionage that would get you banned from other games, but EVE lets it slide because it's what makes it fun.

if you get someone to invite you(i will) you get a 21 day trail! then its £17 something or 20 euros to upgrade to the full game and u get 30 days of members, also worth a mention is plex, basicz you can pay for gametime with ingame money eventually.

Yea forgot about plex. You can literally play the game for free if you make enough money. Once you get into the flow of things you can easily get a steady income to afford a game time code, saving yourself £8.99 every month ;) Of course I rarely achieve it due to my completely reckless flying :D You can also purchase a game time code from a shop or the net and then sell it for ingame currency legally if you are really strapped for cash.

Apart from jump clones which allow you to intently jump across the galaxy. I often intently move between Gallante and Amaar space. There is a catch then you cannot take equipment with you, but that’s solved by leaving identically ships in different areas.

Then there are ships with jump drives. Ok you cannot use them in empire space  but outside empire space travel can be fast.

i have repeatedly tried to 'break in' to EVE... i love the concepts and the ideas driving the game: i love the restrictive skill-curve, i love the hardcore element, i love the risk:reward factor, i love the idea of large-scale communities on the corporation and server-wide level. however, i just find the gameplay too bland and boring; the movement and combat is really disengaging and not nearly involving enough. coming from, say, guild wars and world of warcraft - where the combat is realtime and demands constant attention - to EVE, where (at the early noob stages) it seems to involve merely setting an optimum orbit-distance and then afk'ing... it just doesn't 'grab' me.

it's a real shame because i've wasted a lot of time, money and effort trying to be bitten by the EVE bug. but it has just never really infected me. it feels like a pretty, visual spreadsheet.

pretty, visual spreadsheet.

It is for PvE. PVP is a whole other story. You don't just set optimal range and unload. You have to manually pilot, take into account trajectory, terminal velocity, react to unexpected events. The PVP rush in EVE is like nothing I have ever experienced in any MMO, and I have played, LOTS, of MMOs and I only play them for the PVP (PVE is so boring).

Apart from the fact that there are a lot of people all playing in the same universe at once, Eve and WoW have practically nothing in common. Best thing to do is just have a go of the free trial and see what you think. You really won't scratch the surface though, it's got more depth than a very deep thing.
