Every worry too much?

It makes no sense at all to park your car 6 miles from your house.

'Nice day, I think I'll pop out and wash.. oh'

'I think I might liven up my trip to the shop with some V8.... oh'

Why bother owning it?

Both, there isn't a drive at my new place and I already have a mini, a hyundia coupe and a Ka there.

Ah, that's rather unfortunate then. It does sound as if the car may be a bit more of a burden than it perhaps should be though if you're going to be paying £600 a year just to store it more safely but perhaps more importantly that you're so nervous about it getting scratched that it seems to be having an effect on how you drive and where you go.

Then again I've yet to own a car worth much so maybe that would change my outlook.

Because on the weekend I can swap the cars over in the yard and go for a hoon.

Will you be bothered, or will you just get back from work and think 'nah, maybe next weekend'. Then two weeks later you go down there and the battery's flat, the weather's not so great, so you think 'nah, next weekend'.......?

Thats exactly what happens, and my stored ones are 5 minutes walk away never mind 6 miles.

I know what the OP means, it's just unhealthy worrying about your car and it's quite sad.

I don't have a fancy car by any means but everytime I wash it I find a new scratch or more stone chips (I have zillions!) it makes me think I should just get a total wreck to potter around in worry free.

I guess with cars you tend to go uphill, so each car is nicer than your previous one so you're proud of it and want to keep it nice.

This just seems massively OTT - and coupled with your OP makes me think its just the wrong car for you. It's a car, a very nice car, but it shouldnt rule your life or have you storing it in shipping containers.

It's a car.

Your a fine one to talk

You don't keep a cat as immaculate as you do by letting postmen scrape their bags down the side of it every day.

one of my cars is a 5 min walk away, and most of the time i cba to go and get it... if it was 6 miles away I know i'd never use it!

Its not my main car it was purchased simply to be a toy with a V8.

Trouble is though mate, is to keep a car immaculate like Fox and Robbie do, you need a house with a decent sized drive so it can be can be kept out of harms way.

People who store their car on the street don't have immaculate cars.

I spent a small fortune on trying to keep my vectra perfect, refurbing the wheels twice, obsessing over stone chips with touch up paint every weeknend, contemplating respraying the entire front end to get it all perfect.

But its just not worth it.

Don't worry about the condition of it. Its a car. its built to be driven, not to be looked at and cleaned obsessively. Just let it pick up the odd scratch, mark and chip like 98 % of the car owning public do.

At least 50 % of that car owning public don't even bother to look after it at all and will happily drive round in it rusting and dirty.

I worry about my car a lot.. mainly because I need to keep replacing bits, fix stuff, troubleshoot new noises etc. It's a pain in the **** but it all comes together when I take it for a drive on a nice day and it reminds me why I own it.

As long as the car is mechanically ok stuff like paintwork blemishes aren't so big a deal to me :).

It'll be going into a container when not in use as I have nowhere to keep it at my next place.
I'm going to ignore the pointlessness of this as others have clearly highlighted already....

Was the storage container rental sold to you by a chap with a Nigerian accent? "Ah sir you vehicles will be absolutely 100% secures with my legitimate export shipping service, uh I mean storage facilities".

I'd sell it personally. You're not going to use it much and it sounds like it is wearing on you. What's the point in having a car you'll use once or twice a month.
