Everyday Backpack. What do you have or use?

after reading through and seeing trakke, I waited for the black messenger pro bag to come in stock.

Nice.

I can understand the cost. It’s well made and done in the UK.

Probably a little too expensive. But as it clearly will last forever and has a nice ageless style I’ll get my monies worth.

My work MacBook Pro 15 inch is a snugger fit than I’d like. But it does fit.

jumping on this... sorry...
but I need a backpack that can carry two macbook 16 inches and the normal stuff like headset, headphones, notepad.
I just need to get them from my car to the desk at in the office (about 700 meters).

any suggestions?

Tactical 5.11, Either the Rush 12, 24 or 72. Depending on what I need to take. But usually the 24. Excellent rucksacks. The 24 fits my 16" laptop and charger in fine.

I have a small nordace backpack that I think is amazing. Quite expensive but I love all the zips and hideyholes. Great for taking on a plane or a theme park etc.

I have this one:

^^^This is a bit too small for being a weekender bag, but you can get bigger versions (that are a little bit boxier).
So, approaching one year down the line, how is the Nordace?

I'm being bombarded with ads for bags at the mo, but do need something for carry on I can cram a weeks worth of stuff in.

Nordace stuff looks ok though and looking at the Henge.

Cheers

I recently switched to an Aer City Pack Pro. Amazing back, and looks great in the Xpac version with orange interior.

I did managed to find a seller (who appears to rotate around different accounts...) that was selling Aer stuff for considerably less. What I received is either the best counterfeit ever or it's just the real thing taken from source.

Finally found a decent pack a while back that'll comfortably fit a big workstation laptop (dell 17" thing).

Snap are primarily a bouldering pad maker, but turns out they make really solid everyday bags. I have this one :

My own beige one has had fairly light use - still fully functional but the beige has got grubby in places over time. So that’s a risk of going with a fun colour.

My wife’s black one has been her work / shopping / swimming daily driver for 18 months and is showing wear and tear - a small hole has appeared at the top and it needs replacing soon.

I’d probably buy from them again as I do like the extent of pockets - might mix the bag / manufacturer up just for a change. Wife says the same.

That's a bit rough for something only 18 months old? I have a Northface Surge from 2012 that's still perfect.

Another North Face Surge owner here, it's been great, I have carried two 16" macbook pros in it with out any issue, and just using the laptop / tablet section leaving the main compartment free. Normally I just have the one 16" macbook pro and related chargers and my running / gym kit and wash bag in the main section, but it'll be maxed out at that point.

Bag should last way more than 5 years even with abuse.

I’ve TNF hot shot for your more everyday stuff and a couple of different sized osprey packs to suit my needs for that day/trip all have been through the runner and are still great. All over 10 years old as well.

One thing I will say is they don’t sit up. Which is somewhat annoying and newer packs from osprey have what they call a kick stand but from the reviews I’ve seen on YouTube they don’t look that great.

So if I was in the market today for an every day back I would get This veto as it looks the bees knees will survive everything and will stand up on its own!

I use an osprey fairview 40 (40 litres) for a week for carry on. It fits in the extra carry on category.

Its actually excessive for a hot country where you don't need much.

I don’t think you can really draw any firm conclusions from it. Might have caught against something sharp in an airplane compartment etc. The bag could have been overfilled at some point which causes a seem weakness, etc. Who knows.

With that said, these were never purchased nor desired as ‘rugged / hybrid outdoorsy’ bags. Other brands probably do have better build quality if longevity is a material concern.

As an aside, another ‘negative / room for improvement’ IMO is the built in cable for the external usb port. It’s not removable at least not obviously. In practice my battery charger packs always need turning on and you will need to rummage through your bag to turn it on… making the external USB that’s built into the bag kind of pointless, or at least more faffy to use than you might think.

Ooo, not come across aer before. The Travel Pack 3 x-pac looks ideal. Laptop compartment, large fully opening (clamshell) centre compartment and something I feel is lacking in a lot of bags is a gadget compartment that fully opens! As well as lots of other pockets!

Checked out some reviews, probably wouldn't go for x-pac version as it's not ballistic nylon like the not x-pac version. I hate the smooth materials.

I got given a North Face Fall Line as a gift, it's strong and roomy with internal laptop sleeve and various internal zipper compartments, in perfect condition after 3 years of mostly everyday use.

For everyday use the side pouches are really useful for a compact umbrella or drink bottle, also has waist straps for extra security, but can simply tuck them at back if need be which is what most all users will do.

Downside is the laptop sleeve maxes out at 13 but I still carry a 15.6 laptop in it within its own zipper pouch.

I have an Aer Travel Pack 3 (they do a 35L & 28L version) and it's easily one of the best things I've ever purchased.

I have the X-Pac, can't say if I'd have been missing out on much, but when around Europe last summer and it was pouring down in Berlin everything inside was kept dry.

Plus it was the only version London Undercover has in stock when I ordered.

Hmm., the material doesn't look like I thought it would. Does it have a texture?
