Everyday branded products vs unknown equivalent

Anything that I can, we go for own brand.

Go branded on instant coffee (own brands all taste like hot dog water), mayonnaise, cereal, and baked beans (though Mrs Cheesyboy happily eats the cheap ones), and cheap options on basically everything else.
Tinned Sardines I get the 40p one from Tesco.
Same. The Aldi ones are not very nice, but Tesco are similarly cheap, and tasty much better.

The only "big brand" item I standby for being better than any of the unknown branded competition that I've tried (and I've tried all kinds) is Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Cornflakes. Absolutely nothing else I've tried comes close and, as I spend most of my time away from the UK in places where Kelloggs isn't always available, I've tried a whole heap of others for comparison, easily over 15 different makes from across the world.

For everything else I tend to find that unknown brands can often be just as good and sometimes better so I hold no "brand loyalty" other than to my beloved Crunchy Nuts.

Have to agree, Kellogg’s crunchy nut cornflakes or bust.

Haha, we use our dishwasher to do a final wash, sterilize, and heat dry so our tea stains are removed from the mugs before they go in the dishwasher. We personally like the results from using Cascade in our dishwasher but results of course vary.

what so like double or triple the quantity of water to save on dishwasher tablets?

Cream Crackers are the only thing I can’t skimp on. They have to be Jacobs. We do our main shop at Lidl, but often need to go to Tesco to get some stuff (vegan household so can’t get some veg, and the herb/spice selection at Lidl is terrible) so I always make sure the Jacobs gets put in the basket. The Lidl ones just don’t compare.

But since switching to Lidl I’ve definitely saved a lot of money, and their quality is just as good.

I've yet to find an own-brand of tinned spaghetti (+ tom sauce, naturally) that didn't taste vile.

You'd think something so simple would be hard to **** up.

I'm a huge stickler for branded products. The only non "big brand" products I buy are:

Strawberry Milkshake (Londis)
White/Dark Choc Muffins (Londis)

And Shampoo, I use some coconut one from Morrisons, but it's not Dove/Pantene etc because that's near £5 a bottle...

We only buy astonish products.

Made locally in bradford and better than most other products in the same category.

Buy British!!

Very rarely do i buy branded anything. I honestly don't understand how some of them make so much money. E.g. cadbury and walkers have been fleecing people for years with smaller and smaller portion sizes yet people still buy them.

Not to save on dishwasher tablets. We have to wash many things by hand anyway because the dishwasher cannot be trusted to completely clean everything even when using dishwasher tablets. When I load the dishwasher, if it's something like cutlery, I'll just wipe off the dirt with a sponge before loading the item, but if it's a big pot, for example, I'll scrub it a bit with the sponge and some washing up liquid before loading the item. We primarily use the dishwasher to do a soap wash followed by a (very) hot water rinse and a heated air dry.

To keep the thread on topic, I particularly like the Aldi chocolate that's made in and imported from Germany. The dark chocolate bar with salted caramel is a favorite. Tastes much better than most of the American chocolate around here, with the exception of See's Candies, Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, Godiva Chocolatier, and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, all of which are very expensive.

Most things I don’t care about but:

Beans, tomato soup and tomato sauce= Heinz
Brown Sauce = HP

other than that it's Aldi all the way, their premium burgers are lovely on BBQ.

Morrisons Jaffa Cakes. I prefer them to Mcvities Jaffa Cakes, which are:
1. Nowhere near as good.
2. More expensive.

Same goes for Shortbread too. I buy Morrisons Shortbread as I prefer it to the Scottish branded more expensive stuff.

Nappies definitely buy Aldi compared to the branded Pampers. They're about £5 cheaper per pack and baby can wee so much more berore we change. Pampers are so thin in comparison and they've leaked soo many times.

Waitrose own brand are the best of the rest, but Kellogg’s are just way tastier for both Crunchy Nut and Frosties.

Just personal preference and taste, I've tried them and they're nice but for me they're not as good as Heinz. Enjoy your beans :)
