Everyone is Baldrick now - environment secretary suggests we eat turnips

Certain people wanted to leave a massive trading block due to bendy bananas and imperial measurements yet when there is a shortage of certain vegetables the same people act like its not an inconvenience.

Isn’t “Let them eat cake!” more a story of outrageous ignorance - made by someone who was so privileged they were ‘kind enough’ to give up their luxury of cake when people were starving….

Whilst turnip-gate is more “nobody wants our crap, gross British vegetables, please don’t suggest they are as good as those from abroad” :p

No the article is about the goverment repeating a 'let them eat cake' type line and right wingers say yeah more cake for everyone.
I'm not sure they are controlling the supply of tomatoes. Family and friends out in Portugal and Spain are having low supply in the shops as well. Regardless I bought tomatoes yesterday without issue. The media are often out there to work people up and generate angry, don’t fall into that trap.

Are you kidding? I read most of your posts in the covid thread so excuse me if I dont take your view on things as reality.

Are people reporting empty shelves living in inner cities or similar? I have genuinely seen no shortages where we are in the countryside.

There has been a distinct lack of salad vegetables but it's not exactly salad weather. Hasn't effected me much. We certainly should be producing more locally. Probably a good idea to nationalise stately homes and estates and erect poly tunnels everwhere.
