evga customer service

this is a very grey area, as I work in the industry so know what happens.

Not to sure on evga, but Asus reject any LGA775 boards returned without the CPU cover, which is a joke. I accept many factors for warranty void, but if the pins are ok, how easy is it to put on another cover!!
 
I'm really going off mail-order at the moment - simply because if you have to take something back to a store then a person has to serve you and they pretty much have to sort you out there and then. You can smile and make eye contact which helps when you're telling the truth and you need to establish a relationship with the shop staff. I've never had any trouble with OcUK - web or store - sales staff and I think most of it is down to a positive, friendly attitude and big smile. I even admitted once that I thought I had blown something up and they still RMA'd it on the basis that "it might not have been me after all".
 
I have to ask what is a socket protector?? Search on google dint answer my question. Can sum1 post and image plz? I have ordered an EVGA mobo myself and curious how long thats gonna last me.

If you look on all socket 775 boards, the pins are on the motherboard. A socket protector is something that covers these and thus protects them.
 
whats strange in this case is that i spoke to evga directly and they stated that the socket protector was not necessary for the rma to go forward, so i'm really having trouble understanding why this certain retailer is so adament that it be sent back with the protector

They are wrong. If they refuse then they are in breach of the Sale Of Goods Act.
