EVGA Pascal cards hotspot problem

My thermal pads have arrived, I requested them as soon as the option was available but hopefully the majority will also get them today. No signature was required, just posted through the letterbox.

Yeah my pads turned up too. I'll give it a go later on. Not sure what the thermal paste is. It says "SIL MORE Taiwan" on the package. I'll probably just stick some MX4 on it instead.

I put my superclock under water when I bought it. Pretty much just sits at 2Ghz all the time.

BTW you mightn't need to buy a backplate, stock EVGA one works perfectly with my EK block.

This will be my first watercooling loop. How will I know if the backplates OK or not?

UK here, the pads have arrived today too.
It has come with the VRAM pads aswell and a couple of pages of instructions.

Were you able to use the EVGA blackplate with the EK block because the SC uses reference PCB?

Can confirm that I've received mine here too as well. The instructions are the updated ones but I've yet to inspect the pads. Will prob wait until the weekend so I can do without rushing.

Fitted mines today, I did not put on their thermal paste but the Kryonaut, First time I put it back in the fan's did not come on  it seems I did not put the connector all the way in!

Question for you (as you appear to have done the mod already)...

From looking at the instructions from EVGA.
Point 2) It shows removing further screws shown in green after the base plate has been removed. In the case of the 1070/80 FTW, there appear to be another three screws highlighted.
IE. "Remove the remaining screws on the PCB (circled in green) ... "

But in the following video. He doesn't seem to remove any extra screws after removing the back plate.

Confused I am:(

PS. Not talking about the 4 screws that appear to hold the cooler on.

You just see if it fits.

Yeah. The founders backplate works as well.

I haven't watched the video but on my 1070 SC I had an extra 5 screws underneath the back plate that needed removing (as stated in the guide). It all went quite easily, I just made sure I double read everything and it has all gone back together ok and hasn't blown up or anything :p

Thanks for the reply.

Out of interest, what are these extra screws under the backplate for? Do they hold the middle cooling plate on? Or do they help hold the fan / cooler on?

Suppose I'll find out when I have a go.

I'm not sure what they hold on. I imagine you're right that it's either the middle plate or the heat sink. I found the hardest part was getting the LED power connector disconnected, I had to use some needle nose pliers get it off. Everything else was pretty straight forward.

I think it's the base plate they hold on too, You will need to take them out though, I also had to loosen the top right screw that holds the bracket thing for HDMI ports etc or it would not come off, The instructions don't say that.

Good to hear that people are starting to get their hands dirty with this. Will be interesting to hear whether the TIM supplied gives the same Core temps as previous. I've got some oldish MX4 but not sure which would be better.

I do find it funny that on the thermalmod page, it still says awaiting shipment. Maybe its not being updated, which is a shame, as I bet they were shipped a while ago. Might have stopped people being so twitchy about it.
