EVGA preview high-end, overclockable Dual-LGA1366 Motherboard

At least in P4 days dual-socket P3 boards were pretty affordable, and while they didn't let you OC it didn't matter as they monstered OCed Athlons and P4s anyway

I'm sure a lot of the dual slot 1 / socket 370 boards let you overclock, was there not a very popular Abit board people were teaming up with pairs of Celerons? BP6 was it?

It wont be able to run a standard desktop i7. It has to be a Xeon 55xx series and up as they have the second qpi required for the CPU's to communicate with one another.

What I think is absoloutly amazing about the board though is that it will run two different CPU's. So you could run an E5530 with an E5520 which helps purchasing them off ebay for cheaper.

I'm really excited about this motherboard and I'd desperately like one. Even if its just to use a pair of OC'd E5520's in. A Pair of those CPU's would be cheaper than the desktop hexcore coming out (X980 is that it?) from Intel plus they should OC well and you'd get two more cores for your cash. Whilst this board will be expensive the sheer amount of options available to you when compared to other server/high end parts is incredible and actually makes it great value for money.

I've been checking the 'latest deals,' section of the site every couple of hours recently in the hope that this motherboard will pop up for pre-order. Provided it doesn't cost much more than £450 this will become my favourite motherboard ever.

So from what I'm reading that will need pair of 32nm cpus in, that means 2x 970 when they come out and get my self some more ocz blade from some where. :D

No mate i think, only xeon processors will work series 5500/5600.. which the board will accept , i know the new up and coming 970 has 6 cores but really not 100%

Hi will be running 2 x5670 xeons....hopefully.Seem to be in short supply in us, always going out of stock..

cool, i am looking at an X5650 at the moment, loving the low TDP of the xeons

Might be a chance they will work, will have to see, how hard are xeon i7 to come by.

xeons are hard to get hold of and obviously command enterprise pricing

the chipset on the SR-2 wont support chips with single QPI links

so none of the i7 range basically

in other news...

Depends really on the discount offered on the x series 1366 range from my supplier, just waiting to see what they come back with, I would be happy with the x5650.

I got my relative in US to get the sr-2 for me and just waiting for delivery, thought it would be cheaper to get from there.

I really want the new lian li case V2120 due to be released q3 but cant wait that long but fits the sr2 comfortably, other's are going with the m-mods and PC-80..

Lian-Li PC-V2120 Full Tower HT-PX Form Factor Case -

11 PCI-E Expansion Slots to fit the EVGA SR-2 properly and even future HT-PX boards
7+3+3 HDD Slots for as many as 13 Hard Drives out of the box
Movable 3 HDD bay
Separate PSU Zone

Would I need 2 PSU for this board or 1 to power this?, have read some people are using 2.

Cheers.

This is such a crazy board! It'd need a PCIE SSD just to avoid bottlenecks.....

A balanced build to really set this board loose would be getting on for £10k!
