Does anyone have any actual experience with buying a card second hand and going through the RMA process? I may be looking to buy a 1080 and if I do I know it'll be sold on within probably six months. Normally I would go with EVGA so that the second hand buyer has guaranteed warranty, but the VRM issue with 1080's is ruling them out of this purchase.
 
I haven't had any issues with my FTW and you do at least have warranty if it does go, if you like the Hybrid that doesn't have problems with the VRM's, the blowers are also fine it's just SC and FTW iirc.

If I was buying for keeps then I'd be installing a block on it so wouldn't be concerned, however I'm intending to keep for a short duration so resale value is important.
 
Evga founders? Or the new EVGA ICX?

Or just tell the potential buyer that there never was an issue and that it was just a load of misinformation and people using any excuse to grab their pitchforks.

I buy and sell a lot, and in my experience potential buyers decide these things without the aid of the sellers opinion regardless of fact or fiction.

That much is true. People still have respect for EVGA though. I seen a guy get slaughtered elsewhere for putting them down in a thread this week.

Yes, EVGA are unbeatable for warranty and I've had zero issues selling my previous EVGA cards. I always purchase the warranty extension too as it's a great selling point. The second hand buyer knows that they are guaranteed the three years no quibble, and the extension can be done through me.

However, the VRM issue has definitely dented the reputation of the 10 series cards. I regularly see people claim that other manufacturers honour warranty via serial number and the like, but I've yet to hear of someone actually doing it.
 
VRM issues isn't a factor in itself, it's the effect on resale value that the perception has caused. It's not enough to try to appease the second hand buyer by telling them the card is fine... Let's be honest, there's a reason why the ICX cooler is being used to refresh this line, and when people are buying second hand they'll be looking for that model, surely?

+1, the majority will avoid the EVGA 10 series and go for more reliable brands, unless the EVGA is cheaper.
 
Every single card I bought since 2008 were EVGA, but recently after i had some issue with support on my 1070 i wont be buying their product ever again...

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I can assume that the transferable warranty facility is exclusive to EVGA. Based on this, I'll hold out for the ICX cooler if I do decide to buy new as opposed to second hand. If it becomes available close enough to 1080ti release, then the step up will be a welcome option.

If they registered it, then the new owner can’t… so he will only get 3 yrs.



If the original owner didn’t register the serial number, then the customer will be able to, to get the extra year warranty. //

I recently RMA'd a Gigabyte B-grade 980Ti. I needed proof of purchase.

Having a different address to the invoice doesn't matter since you can arrange the courier to pick up the replacement/repair yourself. Much cheaper since Gigabyte charge £15 if you want them to deliver it.
