Ive gone full circle, considering Scoobys, BMW M3s and now back to Evos. Ive decided I dont want to get back into £15,000 odd worth of bank loan, so am thinking of only spending what I get from the sale of my Civic Type-R (about £7000-£8000)

Im considering an Evo, Ive always loved the aggressive styling, like the idea of AWD and lots of noise (BOV, exhaust etc).

Are there many differences on the VII and VIII? Thats my favourite style but am looking for some solid advice from previous owners. Theres many model suffixes too, any advice on what exact model to look for?

Any valid reasons why I should start looking at Scoobys instead...again?

EVO 7s never really hit the mark and the 6 stayed the better car for this period in the lifecycle of the Lancer EVO. The 8 was pushed out fairly quickly and was a far greater all rounder.

Thanks mate, great link.

Loving the FQ340, but in that price range I'd most likely go for an M3 myself :)

just noticed you said you didnt want to spend

i skim read your post and thought it said you did. Ignore my post then, hope the MLR link is still of some use.

I was around a mates house a couple of weeks ago looking at Evos & Scoobys with him. a lot of horses, Jap style & noise for the sticker price, running costs are meant to be disgraceful mind.

Perhaps G4ORCE could share the running cost differences between his previous owned cars for a bit of an insight.

You thought about an Audi S4 2.7l V6 Biturbo?

Can be picked up for little over £6k and with a single remap, can be 320bhp.

Running costs on my 2004 Type-R are not bad, I'd say about 25MPG, obviosuly less when your in VTEC territory often - which I am :p

Ive just seen a Evo FQ320 when I was out, it was parked up all by itself in a car park. I jizzed in my pants. Awesome machine.

Isn't the most important difference between VII and VIII the fact that the VII had a 45 litre tank and the VIII finally got a 60 litre one? The VIIs struggled to get 150 miles a tank.

Looks like I somehow got the wrong end of the stick, I for some reason thought you had OWNED Evo>Scooby>M3 & considering going back to an Evo again!!!
So appologies for steering the thread in the direction of fuel economy, although I am genuinely interested in the real world running costs of the above mentioned motors!

It wouldn't suprise me if there is a lack of history of Mitsi Evo ownership on OcUK, quite simply the runnings costs are terrible enough to put all but the absolute fanbase off buying one. Compare this directly to the Imprezas, which are a popular choice of car here, people are able to offer better insight into ownership.
Perhaps that answers the question without actually saying anything!?!

Ive been on and off Pistonheads most of the day, still torn. I love the sound of the flat 4 of the Scoobs, but prefer the styling of the Evo.

Damn it, wish I wasnt so indecisive!
