Evolve

Got this for PS4, online time will be sporadic but if anyone sees me online feel free to add for a game or two.

-edit-
or not, matchmaking is down, what a surprise

I was playing all morning with no issue on PS4.

Having not played any of the alpha or beta, I am having a lot of fun with this game so far, very fun with friends!

Been playing this all day, and i have to say the balance is still way off imo.

I can see its probably hard to achieve, and I'm not sure how or what can be changed yet to achieve this but there just feels like something's wrong.

I currently possess 2 wins and 21 losses as a hunter, and 11 wins 0 losses as a monster, from what I can tell the balance has been designed around 5 equally skilled players, which will make a good even contest, however for every player of lesser skill on the hunters it gives the monster an advantage.

Had more then one frustrating game where I chased around without seeing the beast at all until lvl3 - at which point it kicked our backsides. Equally the vast majority of my game as the monster resulted in the same fate for my opponents.
Sure it makes games last quite a long time, but once you learn the mechanics it becomes -very- easy to go unseen for long periods of time.

ho hum, I'm hoping as more people play more games that matchmaking will kick in to make better matched opponents but I'm not sure such a system is in place.

I agree with what you said, I think the game is good but it just doesn't work with random people online.

I'm not sure if it's an equally skilled thing but more to the point people do not play their class correctly. I've been in a few groups where the medic just hasn't healed at all and the support never use their shield etc. I've played the medic a bit in the hope it will make a difference but even then it's a nightmare as people spread out so much and you use way to much jetpack rushing between them or if the monster attacks you they give no support.

It's funny that you say you chased the monster around without seeing him until level 3, I've seen that a lot to and again that's what happens with random groups and no communication. The developers say that you should not be chasing but use tactics like the pincer movement etc to trap the monster.

Having said that the developers also say it is important to communicate with your team mates, they even say that in the in game tips during play. However I'd say 80% of the people in groups don't use comms and a percentage that do may not be speaking English!

I'm not sure how they'll fix but maybe giving the medic a buff will help a bit but the rest is game mechanics and I can't see how that can change.

Got Evolve yesterday and been playing it today although I don't have a mic yet. I've tried to play the classes when possible but a couple times we've lost matches due to team mates doing stupid things like spawning the arena area when the monster wasn't even in the area but was actually attacking the array thing? Happened a couple games ago, very frustrating.

sounds like this game could be brilliant if played properly ... there's always some people online trying to spoil the experience for others , I really want to get this because I fancy a change and I love tactical games that require teamwork, just don't know wether to or not

I'll be getting a headset at the weekend so I'll add some people off here and if anyone's on I'll join in when I get mic sorted.

I'll probably end up getting it at somepoint so feel free to add me, be ace with people who want to play it the way it's meant to be played

Consensus seems to be that it is fun with friends but a lack of game modes and variety means that it will get old very quickly. Think I'll pass on this one.

On a positive note, from what I've seen of it, some of the monster variants and moves look pretty cool.

This game suffers from a problem I have with the current gaming trend.

'Character Progression'

It seems these days nobody is interested in a game unless you progress by unlocking new things.
Honestly, I have no issue with that as a whole and can see why it fits with many games but this just screams out to be released with more content unlocked from the start.

Given the very low variety of game modes, it seems a bit odd that you only start with 1 of 3 characters for each class and 1 of the monsters.

I played 3 hours last night, winning about 80-90% of the matches with either Hunter or Monster and only unlocked 2 new characters.

I think this would have been better as a F2P.
I'd have happily spent £10-£15 on the specific ones I wanted to play as.

Anyway...I played only with 1 mate and we kept the chat private between us as we always do and we didn't have any trouble until we faced a Lvl 3 Kraken with a Support who played more Assault than the Assault class.
Beyond that, with basic tactics on either side of the fence it was quite fun, and mostly easy to take them down.

Defence games like rescue survivor, defence the core etc were really easy as I just threw down Toxic Grenades or Air Strikes at the defence point. Other times just watch where the monster is running to and surrounding it, then my mate would trap it once it started to run then we finished it off.

Game was fun once we got going.

Loading times are shocking though and need to be addressed.

matchmaking had trouble at first - taking 2-3 mins to find a game then it put me as the monster twice even when in a party.
Maybe there were not enough people online as later in the evening this seemed fine

I'll have fun with it for 12-15 hours but certainly a rental for me.

I'll have it on rent until 22nd/23rd and will be playing it now and then so feel free to add me to team up.

Just got home from hospital this afternoon ( broken cheek bone :( ) ... Picked this up on the way home and been on for a good 4 hours just solo survivor or whatever it's called trying to unlock the characters, gotta say I love it !!
Graphics are amazing, really polished and lively environments , animals n plants constantly jumping out on you, like being in jurassic park !

Can't wait to have a proper do online with people on friends list, get some proper team work going and it will be gaming gold! :)
