Ex-Wham singer George Michael dies

I remember seeing an article where George Michael admitted to smoking 25 joints a day, Although excessive, I don't recall hearing that he was a hard user of anything else other than marijuana? Was he a user of anything stronger?

I did notice how terrible he looked more recently. Looking very bloated indeed.

No matter what, It is an incredible loss of life at such a relative young age. To think also he passed away at home and on his own on Christmas day makes his death more sad imo. No Kids, No real love interest and minimal family in his life is not something I would like to contemplate for myself. Seems after all the riches he had, he seemed to live quite a sheltered and lonely life. R.I.P George undeniable talent :(

he was caught smoking crack in a toilet once I think. I don't think doing crack in a toilet is the starting point, that's a maintaining step.

He also spoke about cocaine a fair bit.

I feel for anyone who dies so young but if you spend half your life high AF it's not so surprising.

That is some thought and feeling. All that fame, money but little or no family... Your only legacy is memories to others which at some point will eventually die with new generations.

Though has that changed with Elvis...

I struggle to feel anything for any celebs, the closest I ever came to feeling anything remotely close to empathy was when Schumacher bashed his head in. That upset me for half an hour.

The whole social media fiasco around any celebs death, even the obscure ones, amuses me greatly.

He was a musician, and music is a powerful medium. I think moreso than an actor or sportsman or whatever, music can bring back all sorts of memories good and bad, and can directly shape a person's personality, and their friends and family (i.e. meeting people with like-minded interests). People using music as a means to get over a messy divorce or a death or any other dark time in a person's life isn't unheard of at all.

I can't say I've ever felt a genuine need to cry or even gotten upset over any celebrity death really, but I can see why some people would.

For most celebs I dont feel much, but there are a few who I generally feel sad about. Robin Williams is a perfect example of that, such a tormented and pained man, who yet brought such laughter into peoples lives. For me, he was the eponymous sad faced clown.

(Rik Mayall was another)

That's my point - You cant at this point actually say it is a spike - Will only know as we go into 2017 and see if it continues, which is likely given the factors I referred to. So more like the start of an increasing trend rather than a spike. People won't stop dying. More people will die because of the rate of population growth post war.

you can note a big increase relative to 2015, 'jump' might be more appropriate until we see what happens in 2017.

Point is 2016 was (seemingly) a big jump/anomoly in celeb deaths compared to 2015 or previous years, not just some slight increase attributable to baby boomers.

He's been banned from driving twice for driving under the influence of drugs - in one instance he was found collapsed at the wheel holding up traffic. He's been arrested in possession of crack.

Like other pop/rock stars he's had plenty of free time and resources to live a life of excess.

Hmmmmm who cares what he did in his own life. He did drugs and it was his own choice. He would not be asking for any sympathy of anyone.

Absolute legend of music, so many legends taken from us this year. .

Enjoy your beieber

You're projecting, no one has stated they cared that he took drugs, people have pointed out that his drug habit might well have been a reason for dying early - which seems to be quite a reasonable presumption.

Quite. I know people who do crack because they can't get hold of cocaine or heroine at that time and they need a hit. Drugs such as this also cause heart failure. It's a tragic loss but not unexpected as there was clearly a lot more to it.
