Excessive braking.....

Fox in doesnt know the law again SHOCKER....

the point is, even if it isnt against the law, the police will charge you with "Careless driving", not "undertaking". Fox is right in a sense that you wont be able to argue yourself out of this, because the police are always right...

...kinda like how its illegal to take photos in a public place with a "professional" camera. *coughs*.

HGV drivers tend to just pull out on you, leave you no choice but to do hard braking,

Then take 4 to 5 miles to pass each other,

You have a slight clear road ahead until the next stupid HGV does the same thing and the saga continues

I see this everyday on the way to Stoke On Trent down the A50.

So you're saying if a police car marked or unmarked was in any lane behind me at that time and saw me driving just under 70 going past the van that they would have stopped me and had words about it?

Give me a break, in all 5 years of driving I have never seen this happen and never heard of this happening to anyone ever. You can't stop someone for going under 70 miles an hour and besides maintaining the vans speed would slow down traffic behind the 2 of us as well possibly leading to snaking/domino as cars behind wonder wtf is going on for going so slow.

The manoeuvre I did was keeping at my speed quickly passing the slow van, I was able to indicate into the outside lane and pass the lorries then move into the inside lane once passed them, both lorries were still in their same positions and the van was still a long way behind behind - I don't see what the problem is here.

Basically what you're saying is every time you see a car going slow in the outside lane you should stay behind them also going slow.

GJ, this is why people complain about slow drivers on the wrong lane all the time and besides why do you car about what the HC says? none of you stick to the speed limit most of the time anyway judging by threads/posts on this forum so stand down from your horses for a change.

You are in the right here MRK, in 10 years of driving ive never been pulled for undertaking at 70mph, you have no obstruction in your lane so why should you move out to overtake, no you move out to overtake when you are closer to that lorry.

Tizor, i have never ever seen a pair of HGV's take 4-5 miles to overtake, even on the
m54 or M42.I think your over egging your point a touch.

I clocked a pair of lorries side by side for 9 miles on the M11 once. SOmetimes I am fairly tolerant, but was fuming after that one!

Yep it ****** me off too. More to the point it's such a waste of petrol, every time you break the energy that was built up in the first placed could have been used to get your further. I think the most annoying scenario is people who break on down hill slopes in NSL areas to maintain their hell-bent "let's **** everyone off" 40mph.

The time it takes to pass your test has absolutely no bearing on how good a driver you are. I don't know anyone who hasn't passed their theory test first time. The worst driver I have ever been in a car with took 5 hours to pass.

Your final point seems to be "I don't drink drive or race or 'w/e' so I am a good driver compared to my peers"....OK - relevance?

So how do you know how good driver I am?

Does the fact that I know you can't undertake suddenly make me a good one?

Im not the best driver there is, but I am also not the worst.

Why should we? - You wonder why I & others jump down your throat yet imo ,with the greatest respect, you appear to lecture people in something you clearly are quite inexperienced at.

I don't see what the problem is here.
I refer the honourable Gentleman to the reply I gave a moment ago. ;)

rant

As you can probably guess, I spend a lot of time on the M25 (and most other motorways for that matter!) and I am sick of the traffic jams caused for no other reason than people braking when ,frankly, its not needed.....

Ask any muppet motorist what's the first thing they do to slow down and they will invariably tell you "Brake" - Wrong!

I so wish they'd simply take their foot off the throttle, plan ahead, anticipate, leave a decent distance between you & the vehicle in front and the anchors may well not be needed.

Don't get me wrong, certain steering wheel attendant & brain-dead truck drivers could do with observing this "rule" too!!!

Alas, people are like lemmings - they see a brake light and without reading the situation, follow suit. This imo results in a "ripple effect"; traffic decelerates too quickly, bunches up and before you know it everybody has ground to a halt. Smooth the flow; take your foot off the gas, let friction & hills slow you naturally. Think of the fuel savings not to mention less wear & tear on the brake pads.

FAT CHANCE! :p
