Excessive packaging

Ha! I'm still using the paper that Amazon put in their boxes from two Christmases' ago to wrap eBay items.

My gf hates the amount of padded envelopes and stuff I hoard, just annoys me that people don't re-use this sort of stuff. New label, some tape, sorted!

This.

My mum used to go mental at me for keeping so many cardboard boxes when I lived with my parents. When I was back there at Christmas they'd all gone, she admitted, rather sheepishly, that she'd used them all for posting things since I'd left home.

Then someone needs to be fired. What sort of idiot employee lacks the sense to reorder supplies before they run out?

Maybe they ran out quicker than anticipated and couldn't reorder in time? These things happen!

Same :D
Loft is the safest place in the house, there's so much packaging material, it's like a bouncy castle!

If you spent even five minutes in a warehouse like Amazon's your mind would be blown. It is amazingly well organised and optimised.

Sheer numbers means there will always been a chance that stock of packaging supplies will run out. Especially at the larger firms. Amazon ship millions of items a day; lets see if you can keep on top of their packing demands, eh?

Oh no it came in a big box. A easily recyclable or reusable box. That's much better than the stupid sealed plastic packaging that is less recyclable.

Yes it looks a little silly but it's hardly a real issue.

Best one I had was a pair of Skullcandys boxed up similar size as in the OP. OP certainly beats that though with the battery!

So far, we've been talking about over-packaging. Does anyone have any stories about under-packaging?

We repaired laptops and desktops at my old workshop. On the phone to the customer prior to collection, we always stressed the importance of packaging it in a box and padding it well. Of course, there was always one customer who didn't listen. Laptop arrived, wrapped in... wait for it... bin liner! Of course it was well beyond repair, let alone a warranty repair :-)

I have a couple of drawers full of jiffy bags from deliveries and they do come in handy. I kept the box that my H100i was delivered in from OcUK and that went to Corsair when I RMA'd it, complete with the OcUK tape.

I got my PSU in a box that could have held 8 of them, that got reused by my cat as his 'play-den' lol

this box for a cable i thought was pointless. It's not like it needs any shock or vibration protection.

Probably because they only have big boxes and can't be bothered to make small ones

Amazon are pretty bad too
