experts, is ebay user having me on?

I sold an ebay user my old motherboard, it was working I sold due to upgrade. I sent fully boxed, however there was no pnp cap on socket. The user says he would like to return it because there is no pnp cap in socket, is this a good enough reason to return or to even break it?

If the motherboard was fully working when you sent it, and you packaged it well enough so that there is no chance that any of the pins would have been bent, then you have nothing to worry about. I take it the user has not even attempted to test the motherboard yet?

I would not count the socket cap as an 'accessory', although next time try and source one before you ship off a motherboard :p

The cap wouldn't be required at all, they sound like they're following a tutorial or something, if it was packed properly, nothing will have touched the pins.

Silly argument really, refund them £2 to buy a new one that they can put onto the motherboard and then take back off like their guide says...

That's upto you but I've bought many second hand boards with no socket protectors and have had no issues.

I know, and I can understand why people would take the risk.
But for me. If someone's incapable of keeping the package together, something as simple as a socket protector to sell it. How well have they looked after the goods? I'd put money that on average, people who keep the full kit together and are able to keep the socket protector look after their kit better than someone who doesn't.

I'm also not sure how people are jumping to crazy conclusions about the OP's buyer either

"the part that is missing is needed to ensure the quality of the product, it does state this in the manual book. I do intend to return the item. please send me your address to send it back"

im just gonna give a refund, what a pain in the arse

So each of you are gonna be out roughly 1/4 of the item cost over a CPU cover cap? Seems insane to me. I guess whatever keeps Royal Mail in business.

The problem with selling on ebay is they tend to go with the buyer 99 percent of the time. That is the way it's always been for me and others ive sold and bought for. If he wants a refund and return you will have to let him. But at the same time you should explain to him he doesn't need the cap and maybe he will understand.

This is crazy. You sold the board as working, so unless the buyer has specified otherwise, you have to assume that it is still working.

I wouldn't offer a refund personally as your listing was accurate, and the buyer agreed to purchase this item from you.

Send the buyer to this thread and get them to see how many people say the cap is unneeded.

I hope for your sake you have serials of your old mobo. Seen it plenty of times on here where the buyer then sends back their faulty item to you and claims damage during transit.

This shouts of both ignorance and scam...

If it was damaged because of no cap, then he would have said that, as opposed to "it's missing" surely.

Be interesting to see the update from the OP.... things like this put me off selling anything on eBay now.

I dont understand:
a) its not mentioned as included in the listing, so why would the buyer think it would be there?
b) Why the user is so adamant that they must have it, if it serves no useful purpose in a working machine.

OP - buy a new cap for him and send it to them. Say it was the original.

I'd explain he doesn't need a cap anyway but point him in the direction of this thread and just let him know as a private seller the item was working when dispatched and correctly listed, he doesn't have any right to a refund if you listed it correctly with no cap in the listing.

Another thing is if a case gets opened, just keep it cool and explain it like you're in the know and you are teaching the buyer something, ebay will see this and support you as a seller.
