Explain the GTR?

yea in EVO they pitted it against a corvette down a drag strip, farily even with the GTR, then against an R8 on the road, the GTR beat it pretty much. The it blitzed a GT3 on the track...nickname; "baby bugatti" (or pocket veyron) whichever!

If you watched the 5th Gear test as well it beat the best time the Porsche did round the track by a second on the first lap!!! The Porsche that was supplied was also supplied with the intent of beating the GTR and was setup for track with track geometry/tyres/suspension... The GTR was not modified in any way off the boat... Appart from the stickers.. :D Regardless of the price/power/gizmos its a true beast of a car...
The GT3 used by 5th Gear was a standard car. They come with Cup tyres as standard, and most GT3 owners adjust the Geo to suit their requirements. I ran mine with non standard settings, but with totally standard suspension which was EXACTLY how the 5th Gear car ran. It may have been optimised for the track, but many are as it’s simply a man with a spanner and some computers. The GTR is also running well over 500bhp I am told, even if that is its standard setting from a production standpoint so should be taken into account when making performance comparisons of such nature.

For the money there is simply no question the GTR is one hell of a tool, but its far from a perfect performance car for the enthusiast, just like every fast Nissan that went before it. It’s all about personal priorities…

I think I've missed something, when did 5th Gear do a head-to-head with a GT3?

Seems so, looks like the official 480 is at the wheels, confirmed at Geneva, unofficially. Factor in the AWD...well that's a bit naughty. There's a few dyno charts floating about as well that seem to make a bit more sense.

It is simple really, the GTR makes very good use of its tyres, just shows how much energy is wasted in other cars.

I know its a joke but they are actually built alongside all the other normal Nissan cars.

There was a pic in EVO a couple of issues back with a GTR being built with normal run of the mill cars front and back on the line.

Surprised me as I thought they'd be pretty much seperate builds.

I haven't seen the picture in EVO, but I think Nissan are doing a seperate line for the GT-R. Each engine is built by hand using an individual engineer in a clean room enviroment, as is the main box assembly I think.

If you go for the Ultimate Silver option, it's an 8 stage process that is hand-finished and gets 3 coats of clearcoat.

It was this point I was taking issue. Providing a GT3 with adjusted geo and trick tyres is providing a standard GT3. I was not suggesting it was a head to head, you suggested, if I read it correctly, that the GT3 5th Gear used was set up to beat the GTR, which i wasn't as the settings outlined were in fact what you get when you buy one, that was my point.

Well, if it's an error that results in components being over-engineered i.e. thicker, stronger, more reinforced, of a better material, then yes indeed.

Mistakes go both ways in engineering...

I never suggested it did
