Explaining parts to un-educated people

My parents used to be very picky about me upgrading my PC, it would take me like a week to try and explain why I need a new graphics card, and then they still wouldnt explain it. But I have found a good way to persuade them is get the most demanding game at the time and put it in insane settings and then show them how bad it runs.

Nowadays they just get sick of my whining and let me buy what I want :)

Not everyone wants/needs to be IT literate.

Tbh if the first thing you associate someone to a soundcard with is a tv, then why should they think it relates to anything else?
 
one thing i dont like doing is giving tech support over phone :( (when you know you can do it yourself in seconds)
not so bad over IM though, the power of scr shots :D
 
today i was trying to tell my friend that his 3.4ghz pentium d dual core was slower than my 4200x2 even at stock. he didn't get it at all lol.
