External ethernet cable run

Running internally just seems a no go for where I need the cables to be.

Much more practical to run outside.

Cannot be buried as concrete floor so will need to be attached to the house.

Would using metal conduit be excessive?

I simply do not like the idea of cables just being strapped to the house if that makes sense.

Thanks.

I just clipped external grade CAT5E for my run. I used black cable and clips, so unless you're looking for it you don't notice it. I already have some black external cables for the Sky box, so a couple more wouldn't make that much difference. I ran two cables in the end - only needed one, but it is "as easy" to run two as it is one and now I've got backup if one decides to stop working.

I have 3 network cables running around the outside of my house, I ran them along with 2 Sky cables. As long as they are all bunched together neatly they don't look bad. I also made sure to run them around the back of the house to keep the front cable free. I used These and These to secure the cable together in a bundle to the wall.

Mine just have a bit of clear silicone sealant.

If you drill in from the outside you can go in via a mortar joint and avoid any blowout.

You want the holes going slightly uphill and the cable should always come out and then down (even if you then loop it and go back up).

If you have six cables I wouldn't try to route them all out via a single hole. That would be quite a large hole and the bundle of cables would be difficult to get clipped tightly to the wall near to the hole.

lol this thread :p

For what it's worth OP, you wouldn't get 6 Cat5es in a 20mm conduit

And re fibre just lol - If we're talking preterm patch leads, yeah that's not going to work, at which point you'd want to run tight buffered/loose tube (hate Loose Tube personally) and then you'd need to either cold cure or fusion splice, ££££ - I'll do it if you want though OP? :p (Joking Dons don't hurt me)

OP:

I would just cable clip them to the exterior wall, you would have to run 2x 20mm conduits, for domestic this can get quite expensive as the likes of screwfix will have your pants down :( Have you considered paying someone? I quoted to run a couple in for a few hundred for a local so it isn't actually too expensive.

They would not be in the same conduit as going to different places :p

As for Fibre.. it is not as expensive as some may think, especially if buying second hand.

Not sure I want to go that route though.

Depends on the conduit design and cable routing, could easily bring two conduits into a Tee and in, hence pointing out they wouldn't fit.

Fibre is expensive... When compared to copper it's expensive.

Okay so we're what, OM3? LC Connectors? Avg run? Domestic pricing wise you'd be looking at the following pricing:

http://www.cablemonkey.co.uk/multim...tml#/217-fibre_type-om3_50_125/35-length-10mt

And I would not want to be running these externally in conduit.

Oh and that's before we've looked at SFPs and even switches to support it? OP probably wants to connect his PC and his TV to the internet, fibre is completely overkill :D

e; Didn't realise you were OP.
