I have a WD My Book attached to the PC and very often (like 50% of the time) it hangs the boot process. The boot just gets stuck at the USB device discovery bit and stops. I can see the drive wakes up but maybe not fast enough for the boot process.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Had a similar problem through the weekend with a WD Passport drive however I have a feeling that my solution of disconnecting it before booting the PC isn't what you're after here....

I assume you're looking for a solution which would allow you to have the MyBook attached and powered up prior to booting the PC?

Yep - currently I take the chance, if it hangs disconnect the drive and reboot - not very satisfactory. I find myself saying this more and more these days...I just want it to work like it's supposed to.

I wondered if it was something to do with the USB timeout in the BIOS - anyone know how that works?

The Mybook has no power switch, it's activated by the PC. Basically it has a power cable and USB cable into it, I guess the PC 'wakes up' the Mybook. Don't understand why the PC hangs though - should carry on as soon as the Mybook has woken up.
