Looking to buy 2 new external hard drives (1x 2GB for computer, 1x 1GB for router/network)

Computer is just for backups and the router/network will be for sharing files/media, not that it makes much difference :p

Any recommendations?

I'm guessing when you say 'GB' you mean 'TB'? I've got a 500GB Buffalo drive and they come with some Turbo drivers and they seem to make a slight difference to the speeds. If you're using one for your router, and your plugging it in, make sure it's capable of powering the hard drive, my old router was only able to power flash disks and not large hard drives. Otherwise get a AC powered one (most desktop external drives are).

oh yeah, oops

but yeah as you said most external hard drives are AC powered (don't think i've had a external hdd that isn't AC powered, just portable but that's basically implied in the name :p)

Shall have a look at buffalo drives then thanks :p

Been looking at the WD Elements (already got one which has over 35,100 hours powered on), WD My Book, Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex and Seagate Backup Plus

Any suggestions?

Stay with the brand you have a (good) experience with. I have used 'em all. Only Lacie have let down...
